This is becoming all to familar. Let me ask anyone out there. When you put your headphones on, is it worth losing your life over? Think!

If it was a grade crossing, and he could not hear 4 blasts from a K5 Air chime then he had great earphones. And just as important when this happens there never is a mention of the engineer who will live with this the rest of his or her life. Some cannot return to work.

You people are the stupid ones. I know Keith personally and he was really intelligent He was walking to work and in a small town there is nothing interesting to watch so head phones are a good way to make things more interesting. Don't criticize someone you don't know. Did any of you think of the people he left behind?? His family, the love of his life, and his friends. If this is "natures way of weeding out the stupid" Nature should take a better look around. Keith was a great guy and just one encounter with him you would have known that and he loved life and lived it to the fullest. So, my heart goes out to Amanda, Keith's dad, and brother, as well as all the other friends and family.

Amber, I can sympathize with the family of your friend, and cannot even imagine the difficult time they must be going through regardless of the possibilities of 'why'. That being said, I think your statement about the headphones/music making things more interesting is true, but in this case it also made it more dangerous and deadly. Recently there have been a rash of people not hearing because they have been using the headphones ending up in dangerous situations. Women being attacked because they cannot hear someone coming up from behind them. Others being hurt because they cannot hear a vehicle coming up on them. It is important that we all take a lesson from this terrible tragedy.
