Such a sad story. To the family, I'm sorry for your loss.

Was he stopped for traffic or a light or something? It doesn't say why he would have stopped right on the tracks.

It seems odd that he was stopped on the tracks...maybe by some chance his car broke down?

Didn't see in the article where it said he was stopped on the tracks.
I'm originally from Bucyrus and familiar with the area where the accident occurred. Even if there were no lights or gates at that crossing, the crossings are all marked with crossbucks and advanced warning signs. If people would just pay attention and look when they come to a crossing, prepared to stop for a train, these accidents would never happen. |

1 Bingo! There needs to be yearly testing for drivers over 60 and drivers under 21 also. Why not? |

I agree about the re testing for 60 and over, but under 21? Their reaction time hasn't slowed down, they can still see and hear. Accidents caused by the younger people are usually because they just aren't paying attention. I'm not sure re testing will help that. |

Does anyone really think a seatbelt would've or even could've saved this poor mans life....this is such a sad story. All they say is there were no crossing warnings and he wasnt wearing his seatbelt.....

That's my whole point, they need a refresher on the written part more than the driving part to remind them of the rules of the road. |

|
the seat belts is irrelevant i this case, theres nothing short of getting out of the way that couldve saved him
|
||||
Oh, I didn't realize you were talking about the written part as well. That does make sense. |

BULL! Ever been around a RR? You don't have to see it to know it's there. Open your EARS! An just because you're over 55 doesn't mean you're BLIND. Keep listening to the "BOOM Box' at high levels and you will be. Deaf, that is! The Family has my sincere condolences! |

What are the chances of the car breaking down on the tracks? It sounds more like a suicide to me. |

This story is saddening and I am very sympathetic to the family, but we should really try to take a piece from this and slow down each time we cross railroad tracks. I do not know how often I follow someone and they fly right across them. I have often said this to someone I am driving with when they also prohibit the same actions. I think it is something that is human nature of habit, and drivers often assume that since they "have never seen a train come across these tracks", that one never will, or the infamous "well it has lights and caution bars to warn me when a train is coming"... ever heard of them not functioning?!?!? Unfortunately, this is a tragically wrong opinion!! My hearts and prayers go out to the gentleman's family.

that is sad i feel so bad for that guy

The article says that the car came to rest on the tracks. It came to rest on the tracks after the train hit it and pushed it down the tracks. |
