well, all i can say is that at least the ct. casinos offer a nice big area for non smoking in all of their rooms and they certainly PAY OFF BETTER THAN AC. other than the beach and boardwalk, ct. is better. |
40 and up once a "captive market" in years past, last time i was there in OCT there was only 20 somethings running around drunk... |

NR = not surprised, they don't seem to mind however - one of the other Bloggers said its because the younger set is drinking like crazy in their Clubs so they are making money off of bar tabs ? Bar tabs / nite clubs = fine but aren't they a CASINO and isn't the main reason that their doors are open is to draw people in to GAMBLE , not stay in the bar all night drinking ? As you can see the young Jet setters were not impressed with the Water Club either because Borgata can't afford to keep it open 7 days a week anymore. There again perhaps not the wisest investment they ever made. I really have to attribute this to the original CEO ( who was from the Mirage half of the ownership ) leaving for a better job in 2008 because when the new BEAN COUNTER took over everything went downhill = trust me , we used to go to Borgata all the time and we immediately saw the changes take place. Hey Borgata, maybe its time for a change of hats at the helm ? Nothing ventured, nothing gained. |

Stopped by AC the other day and WOW there is allot of work going on with the boardwalk shops. I guess they did not want to do the work in the summer, New store fronts, and ripping up allot of old boardwalk and butting down New wood. More new shops going up on Atlantic ave.. Sure does NOT look like a city that is dying.
So the city finally got some government stimulus money and plans to use it wisely this time, but the rest of AC must be addressed, the poor people have no choices, but the ones with money can decide what gets fixed up and what remains a slum..let's hope they use it for good and not for show. |
You can spend Billions of dollars for low cost housing to solve the slum problem BUT 2 years later they will turn it back into the slum they left. |
Yes you and I could see it that way from the Pompton Plains area. An affluent upper middle class northern Jersey location, but if you call fixing boardwalk store fronts and laying down new board walk is a city that is reviving itself. Well then in most eyes it is more like painting the outside of the titanic right before it sank. Rather, why not turn over that stimulus money, not as a handout to the poor and disadvantaged, but to the investors that know how and are willing to help the disadvantaged by building low cost condos, similar to the ones in affluent brigantine island? How about simply Cleaning up the AC side streets, open more programs to get the disadvantaged a decent place to sleep, clean and eat? Possibly help them off the streets off drugs and out of the casinos begging? or maybe giving back to William R. Southrey, Sister Jean Webster and Sister Grace Nolan and the mission in AC? How about they decide where the money could best be served since they serve the poor so well. Maybe then we can talk about a city that is not thriving and not dying. |

1 Nice thought on what to do with the money, but it is NOT "stimulus" money; it is CRDA (casino taxes) money meant for economic development and other NJ projects which, supposedly, help other people more permanently than a one-time hand-out. |
Welcome back Pricey, we missed you! yes your correct no one time handouts like the stimulus that the banks and wall street recieved, Permanent changes and improvements are needed in AC, not just the boardwalk and store fronts, though it is a start! More help for the poor and disadvantage in AC is what is needed No matter what the labor or cost. God knows we have enough slum areas in Camden, Trenton, Newark, Jersey City. |

True! Although, there has been SOME trickle-down and some people making $10-$15/hour who would otherwise be making $7. (I'm only back for non-silly discussion; still editing) |
Those are good or i should correctly say, rather decent wages for those who still work in the casinos and the support industry. But i agree that most of those wages should be for the employees who work and live in AC, so that their living standards are improved and spend it the city. CRDA should Work together not just for businesses but to make the AC side streets a little better, a little cleaner, a little safer for the person who likes to wander around the city and explore.(The boardwalk shouldn't be the only thing great about AC) |
Glad to hear from you again PRICEY - its nice to see that people are offering some positive comments about AC and how to revive it. In last weeks Asbury Park Press articles the CEO of the future REVEL casino said he wants to see some positive things happen to AC AND IMPLIED he wud like to see it happen before they finish their casino, so hopefully AC govt. & NJ politicians will take the hint.
