The casino business went out of the way to accommodate non smokers before the PC crowd got the upper hand. Non smokers are not tolerant. It's my way or no way.

You smokers sure haven't help the smokey casinos in CT, casinos need to change their mindset and target the 80% of the people that don't smoke.
<snip>
Why?

They are targeting people who do spend money and will generate a profit for them.

If they thought that was possible with non-smokers alone they would have banned smoking on their own, which is a right they have.

Just as businesses have a right to allow smoking if they want.

Nice to see Smoke-Free Casinos posting here. I see he/she/it is from St Louis as well as I. Interesting that he/she/it isn't posting about the Casino losses in Illinois which is just across the river from us. Most of the boats are off 25% from last year. Of course he/she/it doesn't want to talk about that. Also of note, he/she/it has done a terrible job in St Louis. There are no anti-smoking laws here. The market is doing a wonderful job of solving this made up "issue". There are currently hundreds of smoke-free restaurants and bars if that is what you want.

Just because my isp address says St. Louis doesn't mean that's where I live? I actually live and work on the mid-atlantic coast for a large company with computer servers everywhere in the world. Today it might say somewhere else.
You seem to be up to speed with computers as much as you are with Second Hand Smoke. Still living in the 1980's I see.
It's not about profits it's about PROTECTING ALL WORKERS from second hand smoke.

And let's not forget that not a single study has shown there to be a danger.

Except of course for the one that wouldn't be allowed in a court as evidence.

Let's face facts. You don't like smoking and you don't like that people do.

I have no problem with that.

I just have a problem with you wanting everyone to conform to what you want, regardless of the impact to businesses and common folks.

You are free to go to Delaware. Just as I would go to Pennsylvania if they banned smoking in AC.

Not your first choice, not my first choice, but that does sound fair.

Do you live in a F'n cave pal? I see the physical effects of second hand smoke on my wife and I every time we are exposed to it. I don't need the thousands of studies that PROVE without a doubt that second hand smoke is bad for you. How DARE you think it is o.k. to smoke wherever the F you want in 2008. Smoking is a dirty nasty HARMFUL habit, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. Your are right I am FREE to go anywhere I please and businesses have a responsiblity to keep potential health hazards away from patrons and employees or face fines or go out of business.

God I miss the 1980's - you could smoke anywhere you wanted. It to this day simply amazes me that anybody lived through that. Seems like if was as bad as everyone says - then shouldn't we all be dead? People smoked everywhere. Second hand smoke was part of everyday life. Yet, somehow we have a social security problem. The older generation is living longer than any before it. It just doesn't make sense with all the pharma backed studies saying its deadly. Big Pharma wouldn't lie to us.

With less and less people smoking far less people and children are exposed to second hand smoke.
That's one of the major reasons why the "Life Expectancy" is at all time highs.

Oh - its for the children. What about the older generation that a majority smoked and lived in SHS all their lives. How do you explain that they are living longer than any generation before it.
I love when they say its for the children. How many "children" go into casinos? How many "children" go into bars?
Since I assuming your fan of studies, how do you explain that non-smoking children of smokers had a statisticaly significant drop in illness compared to the average.

The fact is that there are not "thousands of studies" as you claim. There isn't a single one that a judge will allow to be entered as evidence since everyone knows that it was altered to support what folks wanted after it failed to prove what the folks wanted.

I still believe I live in the USA where freedom used to be the hallmark of this great country.

As long as the sale of cigarettes remains legal, a business should have the right to decide if they want to allow it or not in their business.

No one says you have to work there, no one says you have to go there. It is a matter of choice.

But, from what you have written, I would think that the idea of freedom and choice is either beyond you or something you don't believe in.

Unless you are willing to let me tell you how to live your life, don't assume that you can tell me how to live mine.

But how you live your smoking life EFFECTS my life. So your life is more important than mine, not hardly. You smoke near me it effects ME. I don't smoke I don't effect you.

Legal Products: Alcohol is a legal product but has many many restrictions. Oh, you're just interested in products that your addicted too.

Studies: Oh please, you are living in DENIAL. Only a fool or addict would say what you did. I guess you could be both.

Businesses decide? So should we get rid of the hundreds of codes, laws and ordinances that businesses already have to follow or just the one you don't agree with because of your smoking addiction?

ALL EMPLOYEES AND PATRONS SHOULD BE PROTECTED FROM THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF YOUR SMOKING HABIT/ADDICTION. It's not my habit it's YOURS, KEEP it to yourself!

How does someone else smoking affect your life? You don't have to go into a bar that allows smoking.

Yes - Government does have rules that have to be followed. In the case of SHS - OSHA is the one that regulates it. They have done studies and have concluded that smoking does not make it unsafe.

Thousands of studies - I have yet to see on conclusive study. Every study that I've seen does not in any way shape or form conclude that SHS is harmful. This includes studies from WHO, EPA and the ACS. They simply don't exist.

But your free to believe what you want. Your also free to choose what establishment you want to go to.

Your also free to answer some of my earlier questions which so far you have chosen to disregard.

Since my State, Illinois, passed the most stringent Smoking Ban in the Nation, business has actually shot up at restaurants and even many bars! The casinos are doing fine, no matter what the pro smoking clowns tell you. My wife and I recently were at 3 different casinos and everyone, including the smokers, were having fun. The smokers did not care one iota about stepping out into the comfortable outside Smoking Section that the casino owners admirably did a great job of setting up for them. A recent Poll here in Illinois showed over 77% of Illinois residents support the Smoking Law. A majority of smokers also back the Law to one degree or another. I personally know many smokers and even bar owners who tell me that they now agree that the Smoking Ban was a good idea who's time has come! No, the only opposition to these smoking bans are the Tobacco Companies, their paid Senators and Congressmen and the few nitwits who continually write blogs and Letters To Editors that mimick their big daddy, Big Tobacco. In addition, Donald Trump's opinion no longer carries any weight with most people. As a former fan of his, I no longer have a high opinion of him now that he apparently sides with Big Tobacco against casino smoking bans. He ought to be ashamed of himself for arrogantly advocating that nonsmoking casino employees put up with filthy secondhand tobacco smoke for another year. How would he like it if the City Council mandated that people be allowed to smoke in his big, luxery- drenched office? No sir. Would'nt be so nice if the shoe was on the other foot, would it Donald??

AC is going to delay decision to ban for 1 year. This was smart for city council to do this.

There would have been layoffs and this isn't a good time to throw another log onto this bonfire of an economy we've got going on right now.

The UAW might just be the stupidest union in America. They didn't mind dealers and floor losing their jobs. What A$$holes.

You must be smoking some pretty good stuff. I live in Illinois too, a short walk from Indiana. Some of the small bars here have to ignore the ban to keep their customers from going to Indiana. After ten months, there have been NO customer or worker complaints. If you go to any local bars where "everyone knows your name" I'm sure there are some near you that allow smoking.
