Old Timer wrote: <quoted text> Isn't this one different because the phone user is not an employee but related to an employee? so the news is saying that the employees family member was being allowed to use the phone by the employee,,, if thats the case i guess that is worse then what the saltville officer was doing...Ii wonder if it will be handled the same way it was handled in saltville?

Bad enough when the policeman used his phone for both, but I can see how that would happen, and blame the town for not having a policy and unlimited service plan. This is obviously wrong. Whoever gave him the phone to use is responsible. The business can't afford their own phone? Really?

Can't wait to see how Roy Evans and Bradley sweep this under the rug.....

I am sure they will come forth with some strange reasoning, as to why the fellow had the phone. Perhaps it will be said he was helping them undercover arms dealers lol. Who knows in this county. I want to know how to get a phone from the SD. I mean if my taxes have been helping to foot the bill and so forth, I would be happy to have a new cell phone.

The family member is a grown man, married, does not live with his father, the chief deputy sheriff, and has had this phone for years - yes years. This is wrong. I'm with CottonEye. I would love for the Sheriff's Dept to pay for my cell phone too. The Commonwealth of VA and Smyth County have been paying for this phone with our tax dollars.

How did this go not noticed for so long? It seems to me like this officer (and maybe some others) never needed a cell phone if no one ever tried to reach him on it for work.

Smyth County Citizen wrote: Can't wait to see how Roy Evans and Bradley sweep this under the rug..... It will be interesting to see how this is handled. I believe this should be a criminal offense because it is the same as stealing from the county. If this is the case, it will be even more interesting to see how Roy Evans handles it since he is "a legal advisor" to the Smyth County Sheriff's Department on criminal matters.

What kind of citizen are you? Who is the one in town always starting junk with everybody who is an official?? Always getting someone to do something bout it instead of doing it yourself??
