I'd very much appreciate it if my posts was NOT removed this time!

This is outrageous and sickening. There are many guilty people in this. These poor people should not have slipped through the cracks! I sincerely hope these poor souls find some peace in their future. Gawd knows their lives have been terrible!

This is terrible. Yet, it is telling that they hired illegal aliens and were busted for it, then they figured out a way to abuse mentally disabled people. They even went further and housed them in horrid conditions and "charged them" for ""kind care."

I hope these criminals get LONG PRISON SENTENCES and are made to pay resititution to those they abused! Too bad our laws won't allow them to also get the same "kind care" they gave to these men!

What a horrifying sad story. Our criminals are treated better then this. I hope the men that run this plant go to jail. Who will take care of these men now?

I agree ! This has obviously gone on for a LONG time, since the 1970's according to the article, why is it they are just finding out about it?

excerpt:
""My God, this is an embarrassment to the state of Iowa," said Sylvia Piper of Iowa Protection and Advocacy, a federally funded group that oversees services for the disabled. "This should not be happening in our state.""

Where were they in 1979 when at least one of the men began living there. NO OVERSIGHT... again! It is 2009 for Pete's sake!

I have a dear friend that had a downs syndrome son & I KNOW that people that hire the handicap can obtain money from the GOVERNMENT. I just wonder if our government paid those greedy, twisted, despicable employers money to employ these men.

BTW Redlands, I can see no reason any of your post would be removed.

Captain, just when I thought it could not get worse!!“Abuse, sex for pay alleged at bunkhouse in Atalissa” your first link, in case anyone wants to google the article. The second link,“State failed workers at Atalissa, Culver says”

BTW the phrase "looking forward" is used in the second link, "DHS Director Gene Gessow has said he is not interested in investigating past decisions and is, instead, "looking forward."

Personally, that phrase is used way too often when our government agencies are caught not performing their duties. Katrina was the first time I recall it being repeated ad nauseam.

Thank you for the links, Captain Jack, they were difficult to read but very important.

Hi Carol, you are so right, our criminals are treated better than this so are our pets. Where is the National Media on this ? We get stories about pets that are mistreated, here in the local media and the abuse took place in other states! I have not heard one word about this and I am in Texas.(Where the men came from)

----

The city of Atalissa has rented the bunkhouse to Henry's for $600 a month

Henry's paid the men AS LITTLE AS 44 CENTS PER HOUR

Carol, get this “A company, with the permission of the U.S. Department of Labor, can pay less than the minimum wage to disabled workers who would otherwise not be employable.“ WELL they sure paid them LESS than minimum wage!!! Something MUST BE DONE .. I wonder how many other places exist like this?

(In the first article it said about one man)
Henry's Turkey Service took $487 from his earnings to pay for his room and board, then deducted another $572 for "kind care."

I realize these are excerpts from a few articles (I read ones that Capt Jack posted as well ) but it shows me these employees were mercenary in their greed and abuse of these men.

I hope these men will be cared for and that they will be appointed LEGAL ADVOCATES to see that their money is returned to them, AND THEY ARE GIVEN A LARGE SETTLEMENT! These criminal employers need to have all their assets frozen!

Sorry for the long post... this is so upsetting!

I find this disgusting. The Churches pray for
illegal alien border jumpers, while saying
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about these abused souls!

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Virgo

Someone is easily angered today, and you'll want to tiptoe around them at every opportunity. They might be on the defensive and imagine that you're getting at them all the time, or they could be quick to point the finger of blame straight at you. It won't be an easy day, but try not to get swept up in the emotional dramas that are swirling around you. They'll only exhaust you.
