The issue isn't with the design of the Concord rotary; the issue is the shear volume of cars trying to use it during the commute from the west. You simply can't design away traffic - a bypass would merely allow you to get to other trouble spots a few seconds sooner, or create a sea of cars moving in a slow straight line instead of a slow circle. A solution: use design and money to get more of those cars off the road (commuter rail, subway, bus).

Ugh. I am so glad I don't have to deal with the Rt. 2 commute anymore. The whole road from Leominster on is an absolute nightmare during rush hour(s). What we need is to widen the road, possibly extend into Fitchburg and also do SOMETHING with the Concord Rotary. What a mess!

MASS HIGHWAY has been studying the problem for years, and it will take years to fix. Just look at the Winter Street Project in Waltham, going on 11 years now, and still not done..

Or how about just down the street the dogleg in Rt 2 at the Licoln /Concord line....been working on that my entire life... The entire road through Concord is bad...poorly timed lights...too many intersections... |
