Who killed Jan Neisel

i wonder if any forensic evidence was saved.there are many more tests that can be done today that were not invented yet back then.no one should get away with murder,whoever it was.

Depends on what he was tried for, right? Let's say he was tried for murder, and acquitted. Well, was kidnapping a charge? If not, and evidence were to surface that she was taken against her will by him, then sure he could be tried for kidnapping. There are various charges that could arise from this scenario...so double jeopardy would only apply to the original charge. Unless I misunderstand the law...which is possible.

Also, an acquittal in a criminal trial has nothing to do with a civil trial if someone would want to bring one.

i think the people of boyd county should demand this case be open mabe the next time theirs an election make the prosecuter promise to do so if elected they always want to make promises on what they will do if elected

Yes, I was in the same class as John. I hadn't forgottten. It's been the better part of forty years, so I admit, I think about other things from time to time as well. I live in Helsinki, Finland. So no, I don't have immediate access to newspapers in Ashland, Ky.

I do however, have access to homicide detectives, criminal profilers, etc., who help me out as consultants while I'm writing, and would more than likely do me a favor and take a look at the documentation about the murder if I could get hold of it. I was thinking maybe I could try to contribute something to my former community.

I think the first thing to do is just collect all the public documents available. Newspaper articles, police reports. Get them copied and on-line. Reading through it all is the first step, then just see what direction it points in. There's even info here on this thread that I hadn't heard before. If you'll help me, lets compile data and see what happens. Maybe later, we can get interest from authorities and journalist in the area to help, re-interview, etc. It's a long term project. It would help to be able to locate the family as well. I'm not sure if it's right to pursue this without the permission of her children. I remember Jan as being a really nice person. People used to comment a lot on how beautiful she was . Even as a little kid, I thought so.

alrighty then.......since u know many people who can help u ( u know profilers and such) then it seems u could have their assistants help u on this crime that u seemed to have forgotten, yes the most bizarre crime in ur area as a child. just sayin , but anyway I think INTERESTED should be compensated for his/her hard work on this story. I'm sure if you went to thedailyindependent.com it would be in the archives and you could sidestep all of this negativity Jim. I, for one, would love to see this case re-opened and solved and if you can help do that, it would be wonderful!! We ALL would appreciate it!!!

Earl Borders is the cop that went to Washington to arrest him. He solved the case. He is still in town, someone ask him about it...

that cop never solved any thing the jury said he didnt do it and ive never met any one who belived that boy on trial did it if that cop was so convinced he had the right guy why dont he run a back ground check on him and see what hes been arested for since he was turned loose you dont think he would just do somthing so horrible one time and then just stop do ya if he hasent been arested for any thing similar to this case then id say he absoutly didnt do it. he could check throug department of utilites and track this guy of his wherabouts since 1974 and see if theirs any similar un solved cases similar to this one in the towns he has lived in but like i say i dont belive the one arested did it

I remember the murder of the young couple on skyline drive in about 1960. That's another murder unsolved in Ashland.

I think it's great that you are interested in this case. Also its great to see anybody get out of this area and prosper!! Good for you James ! I'll will definitely check out your books. Thanks for all the supportive comments. After thinking about it a couple days, I think the best way to go about it is to first read the trial transcript.

I've been in touch with a journalist at the ADI, I'll ask him if he can help me pull articles about the case. I'll also try to find John. I suspect this may be difficult if not impossible.

I think people should realize that we can try, but most likely, nothing will come of this. It was probably a hopelessly bungled investigation and too late to unravel the mistakes. You never know, but I'm not doing this in the interest of writing a book, just in the remote hopes of bringing some closure to a few people.

At the very least though, if we get far enough for there to be a story to tell, I'll write an article and publish it somewhere so everyone can know what happened with our attempt to find the truth, whether we succeed or not.
