Jailer Joe Burchett

Whats your opinion of him? Dumbass or begining stages of dementia?

i cant really say much about him i really dont know him

Joe and Debbie, both, are outstanding people. I know him personally and have much respect for him. He doesnt just lock people up and throw away the key. He tries to help them. In my opinion, most of the people who have issues with him, are people that were in jail and didnt get thier daily kool-aid!! GO JOE!!

Mr.Burchett is not perfect as well as anyone else. The man is in a public spotlight. This man holds a large political postion as well as a large responsiability. This man does the best he can at any given time. I find that people want to down him for caring and compassionate ways. I as many others know that Mr.Burchett would give his shirt off his back to anyone. Mr.Burchett gets ridiculed by people that hate thereself. This man has a job to do, and unfortunately the job he does is going to make people mad. At least this man is not selling drugs or beating up women or involved in any illegal activity and so on. I see a lot of jealousy coming from people for childish reasons. This man is fair with his employees. It just boils down to this man believes in everyone and has faith in them. Mr.Burchett likes to give people a chance to prove themselves. I see a lot of people who crap on him for no reason because they dont get their way. This is something a child would do. I recommend to you if you are one of these people, GROW UP!!! This is a prime example of Damn if you do and Damn if you dont. This man gets shit on by people who dont amount to anything anyway. You know who you are when you read this. So to answer the first question asked in this thread. I sumed it up for you. It makes me wonder how this man has not been mentioned in this web-site before and now all of sudden someone asks such as ignorant question. We know who you are and you intentions behind it.. as a person he may be great as a jailer he truly needs some improvment. and it may not be his fault because that is not his area of training till he took office so it is still a new thing in some alot of aspects for him

Joe Burchett is a good man and tries the best he can everyday. He is never going to be perfect as none of us will be....This man has done a lot of good things for the jail and this community. You have shit bag deputies who cry all the time over everything and if they dont get what they want...Then you have ex-deputies who were lazy and a complete disgrace to the jail. Then when they get fired for acting supid they have to blame someone..Who else would that be?? I wonder....Keep up the good work Joe B....

I just wanna know how many of you that are posting on here saying he is such a wonderful person have actually seen first hand how Boyd County Inmates are treated? I agree these inmates have obviously done something that they need to be punished for but the way they are treated there at Boyd County Jail but if they were animals Mr. Burchett would be an inmate there himself. Such a wonderful person?

The man does not treat the inmates like trash. He sits and talks to the inmates and will carry a conversation with any of them at any time. As for some of his guards, they may get out of line with them. If Joe gets wind of it that guard gets a ear full from him if not some type of punishment to follow.. Every inmate I have ever seen go in the jail comes out with weight put back on by several pounds. Its obvious they are fed well in there. We know that they are fed well, the inmates are given cleaning supplies when the guards give it to them. The inmates have a roof over their head and 3 meals a day. They have commissary every week as well...With all that said, its awful..Right? They are well taken care of inside there....

As someone stated something about his son being arrested...Well I want to inform you that is not his biological son...Its his step-son. Im sure Joe does not agree with what his step-son has done in the past...Joe understands people make horrible mistakes throughout their lives...Joe is a very caring man and loves people. He doesnt care for a smartass im sure in his jail when he tries to be nice to them...I would not either as anybody else would....Jail is jail, its for people who have committed crimes. Its not suppose to be an enjoyable place for anyone. It was intended to be a punishment for people to hate it there so they dont come back and to remember what it was like there before they go and commit another ignorant crime..Its like anything, if you like something you come back for more..Right? If you hate something so bad, you usually try to stay away from it...So therefore jail is made to be a non-enjoyable place people..You go in the jail with a good attitude im sure there will be no problem at all...The guards are not going to let some punk come inside there and cuss and rant and rave as well as being violent and aggressive. That is normally taken care of right off the bat...

Goodman, the inmates have to purchace their soap, toothbrush, etc.. From the jail. The jail charges inmates $50 a day to be lodged there. Plus an extra $50 for booking fee. Why don't u check their policy on the website for the jail. The jail's sole purpose is to house people that are being punished and usually rightfully so. The JAILERS job is not to carry out that punishment. It's to house, oversee and take care of the inmates. The lose of freedom is the punishment. Do you think it's ok to spray someone with OC spray ( pepper spray ) because they were to noisey or because they disagree with u?how would you feel if one of your family members were sat in a chair, strapped down to when the only thing you can move is your head and pushed into the rec area to bake in the sun for a couple hours? Again, the punishment is one lose of freedom. Not dignity. I do agree that there are those that bring attention on themselves and the should be delt with accordingly and appropriately. But to spray someone because they banged on a door? What if one of your loved one were in there and needed money for their bare essentials and all you could give was $50 ? Well if they haven't paid their " fee " for the day they don't get it, your buddy does....

and does try to talk to people when they are put in his Jail,The Deputies are not Maids,they do take cleaning supplies to the cells,when they don't clean,they loose privledges until they get it right.It is what it is JAIL.

To me the way Joe Burchett became Jailer specks of what kind of person he is. The candle light sevices he was part of and playing up the death of an inmate. Does not supprise me that the state is watching the jail very close...

if you have worked for jb, you know he has two sides to him, a caring side( thats what people see at church or in the public) and a political side ( thats what deputies and inmates in the jail see, or when jb is not around a voter or someone with power). wakeup people, jb time to shine has passed, time to pass the torch to someone with LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPERIENCE!.

Do you know that before an inmate is convicted they are neither a county inmate nor a state inmate? Therefore if they get sick and need medical attention neither the state or the county pays for their medical bill, but it comes out of the fund that this wonderful person that you guys are speaking so highly of is responsible for. So, if you get ill you are screwed because Mr Burchett will absolutely not allow those particular inmates medical attention unless a judge himself gets wind that one of these inmates are lying in their jail "dying" then forces the WONDERFUL Mr Burchett to take them to the hospital. Isn't that right Mr Burchett? Probably still catching alot heat over several of those aren't you?
And let me add... the guards have begged him on behalf of these inmates and he would not give in. It was the guards who contacted the families of these victims so they could get something done. But there is no doubt the guards would be the one to take the blame had the inmates laid there and died. That's politics!
Sorry excuse for a human life if you ask me!

Also, if you are a female inmate that Mr Burchett isn't fond of, you have no money in your commisary, he will not allow you to be supplied with feminine needs. Isn't that nice of him? And no I am not and have never been an inmate there just a concerced citizen who has been looking into Mr Burchett. I have contacted WSAZ news and the Daily Independent but they conveniently arent allowed in the Boyd County Detention Center and neither is Social Services. Department of Corrections is unable to help anyone before their actual conviction because they are not yet a state or county inmate. So, for the time being Mr Burchett can get by with these random acts of kindness.

If you a person breaks the law, I have no arguement with them going to jail and serving out their punishment. But these are humans not animals. The sad thing is that if they were animals someone would be doing something about it and Mr Burchett would be in prison by now.

Goodman, have you been an inmate or ever worked in the jail and seen first hand the evil that this man is capable of? Or are you someone he goes to church with?
