Question:

How long do you think it will be before an arrest is made in the shooting of Steven P. Watkins?

This is ridiculous that there has not been an arrest in this murder after all this time. I think the Ashland Police should have called in State Investigators to investigate the murder of Steven Watkins. There were only 3 adults in the home besides the victim, so does it take a Rocket Scientist to figure this out? Who had gun residue on their hands? Who had the ability to get a gun from somewhere in the house and fire it at the back of this young man's head? If they are stonewalling the investigation then arrest them all on conspiracy to commit murder. It's obviously a family affair.

When my son was murdered in Havana, the Illinois State Investigators were called in immediately by the Havana PD, because they wanted to be certain it was done right! Why weren't they called in for this murder, since Ashland PD can't handle the investigation?

Steven Watkins family needs closure and there should be justice for Steven. Money and so called prestige in the Ashland Community should not be a factor in this investigation. Come on Ashland PD, get your act together and do something!!

How difficult is it to contact the state- FBI etc. If you want justice get the media involved!
Stop wasting time blogging and make some noise. Talk to the neighbors. Make a stink. Call national news sources.

I agree with and justice for all. If a complaint was sent to the media with enough signatures this would get the attention of state authorities. This is not something that the citizens of IL should let slip through the cracks. There are enough witnesses in the household that some statement of investigation findings should have been released after nearly two months. The longer the case goes without any charges being filed the less likely any criminal chares will be pursed.

This is not a difficult case and an arrest could have been quickly made with good questioning and evidence gathering. I have worked in the PD department in a much larger community and it seems that in small communities they lack the skills and expertise or simply are easily influneced. This is a very sad situation and had the call not been made it would have been spun differently -an attack or breaking and entering or violence.

It is sad what has happened but, as i read all that everyone has wrote, it makes me have to ask. How many of you all were there. I know i was not so how the heck can you all say it is so easy to make an arrest in this matter. I read one of the comments that someone wrote that they should just arrest everyone in the house the day it happend and it would all be over. Heck thats like saying just arrest everyone in the world. I sure know i dont want to be arrested for someone elses crime, but hey thats just me. I for you who dont know the skinners how can you judge someone you dont know. They are a great bunch of people and friends. I am just as sad that another persons life was takin out of this world. I Also read that small community lack the skills as a big city, well i am involved with small communitys as a firefighter and we deal with the law all the time, and small communitys work just as hard as the large citys. Hey skinners and websters i am on your side. Hold your head up High and dont worry about everyone else. Our THOUGHTS and PRAYERS are with you all the way.

I dont care what type of people the skinners and websters are. A young man was shot in the back of his head in their house and no one in that damn family will say who did it. To hell with them they know who shot Mr.Watkins and took his life. No one in that house cared about Mr.Watkins why should I or anyone else care about them. Yes I agree everyone in that family should be sitting in jail. The family dont want to tell the truth, to let anyone know why Steven was shot, way should they get to carry on with their live when Steven cant carry one with his. His two little girls and his family dont have their normal life anymore. The Skinners and Websters got their Holidays together but The Watkins family didnt. I think the whole family should be in jail, someone in that house shot a man in the back of the head, someone in that house took 2 little girls dad, someone son, brother so why should they get to have a life when they took one.

Time to rethink Custody Laws etc etc
Same here in Canada ,people wonder why they blow their tops -usually and probaly statistically would be the other way around...
As for Steven I did not know him, and I have heard he was a good guy.
Probably the Grandmother is the shooter, and is playing the Im a wacko or very well might be now , either way Innocent Life lost -child will never know her father..
Hanging or frying televised might stop peoples future shooting endeavours.

To Adam, I said they should arrest everyone in that house for Conspiracy. I didn't say anything about it would all be over. It will never be over. NOT for Mr. Watkin's family and NOT for the shooters family. It's obvious that one of those three adults murdered that young man. The other two are stonewalling the investigation. They are as guilty as the shooter if they don't speak up.

I can't even imagine the hell that Steven Watkin's family is going through, and I have been through my son being murdered. It's an unbearable grief and when justice is not served, it's even more tragic.

Adam to stand behind the Skinners and Websters is probably a good idea- standing in front of them might get you shot in the back of the head, like Steven did. Its your right to side with them but you could possibly be their next victim. They are psychopaths and Steven was taken in by the at first and once you are in their web beware or their next victim might just be you.

I can not even begin to imagine what the family of Steven Watkins is going through and pray to God that I never have to find out. However, I think for "Adam" to place what the Skinner and Webster's are going through higher than the victim's family is truly an outrage. No we were not there, but the facts are Steven was murdered and the shooter has been left to about his or her normal life. I agree that whoever was in house should be held accountable. Maybe if they locked them all up then the the person who pulled the trigger would own up to it. However I still think charges should be filed against the others because they have helped to hinder the investigation and cover up the crime. I also think that the little girl should not be allowed to be in the same house as people who are cold blooded enough to kill her father or cover for that person. So my prayers will be with Steven's family and NOT the Skinners and Websters. My only prayers for them, is that finally step up and do what is right and take responsibility for the CRIME!

I am just in disbelief at what is....or I should say, what is NOT happening in this case. My gosh, I come in here quite often just to see if the police have done anything to the person/persons responsible for a young man's murder and find that everything is the same. The Watkin's lives have been changed forever, two little girls have lost their Daddy and the murderer/murderers still walk free.

I'd like to ask those 3 adults that were in the house the night Steven was murdered, "How do you look his little girl in the eyes? And Dear God, what do you say to her when she asks for her Daddy?"

I'm praying for Steven's family to find peace, comfort and justice.

I'm praying that the murderers will soon find they can't live with this on their conscience. Or maybe the murderers and the investigators don't have a conscience.

This is starting to sound like a topic for Dateline to me. Or any major news channel. Maybe we should all send letters and or emails to NBC, CNN (Nancy Grace), MSNBC, Fox News...anyone and everyone who will listen and tell Steven Watkin's story. Just because Ashland is a little bitty, midwest town doesn't mean this kind of non-action should be kept from the main stream media. Somebody is covering up and protecting the guilty and the Watkin's family and his poor innocent daughters need answers.

I have been writing to the major media about this case as well. We should stand up and pickit this police department so that more attention can be placed on this case. Where is Steven's family in all of this? Why aren't they speaking up and drumming up support to nationalize this story and get the person or persons behind bars where they belong. If the family will stand up and protest I am sure others will join them.

First off, for Steven's family, they are dealing with this the best they can. His mother now has his oldest daughter to raise and try to explain to her what happened to her dad. Has for their other granddaughter they dont even know where she is or how she is doing.People should not be on here beating up Watkin's family. It took 2 months to get this ruled a murder. The Skinner family all can go to hell. I dont know what to say to any of Steven's family. I know they want justice and I'm sure they want the whole family that was in that house the night Steven was murdered behind bars. Steven's family members, there life I'm sure stopped the day he was murdered. But yet that Skinner family are still going on like nothing happened. I think until you have lost a close family member to a crime like this, you have no room to judge this family.

I'm don't think anyone intended to judge or beat up Steven's Family. I know I certainly am not judging them.

I speak for myself when I say that at this point in my own personal grieving after my son's murder, I was still deep into what I can only call my 'insane grieving period'. The pain, the emotions are impossible to describe. It's been three years for me and I still can not accept it most days, and my son's murderer was arrested and charged the very day she murdered him. To go through a violent death of a child is tragic, but for the murderer to still be walking the streets is unthinkable.

I admire Steven's family for being strong people who obviously are deaing with this the best they can. They also must be very patient people...knowing in their hearts that justice will come for Steven in time. Sad part is....even when justice is served, it doesn't bring them back...but, it gives a little bit of closure.

God Bless You, Steven's family. I'm glad you have your Granddaughter with you and I pray that the little one is safe and you'll soon be able to see her too.
