Thank you Berkshire Eagle for publishing this large article. My heart goes out to the owner of the dog and I hope he is reunited very soon. As heartbreaking as it is to read a story of a missing dog, It is a loss and truly is "news." Such a big relief to read a headline other than "Who's been shot", "Victim dies in drive my shooting", Career drug dealer sentenced to 3 weeks in prison", "Assault and battery at late night club", "Bullets ring out in Morningside community", Etc Etc.

Congratulations Berkshire Eagle and keep up with the "news"
Sorry

Hopefully someone found this dog and is giving it a LOVING home.
The owner of this dog is a selfish breeder, pumping out puppies to supplment her income.
Whoever finds this dog, I encourage them to get the dog fixed before giving it back to this selfish owner.
She'll probably send it to the pound once she realizes that she lost her puppy mill.
Clearly, you have fallen for propaganda of some kind. PETA?

Julie breeds wonderful dogs, a pretty rare breed, in fact. Do you know her personally, and know of some practice that I don't at her kennel? I don't know her personally, but I do know her reputation in the dog world, and it seems to be good. How ignorant of you to state that she's "pumping out puppies". At one point, Field Spaniel was one of the breeds my husband and I were investigating...the wait for a puppy was LONG at her kennel. A reputable breeder takes her time and selectively breeds for health, temperament, etc. They're making a living, sure---but it is about the love of the "line", not money, first and foremost.

I adopt animals, give heavily to animal rescue groups, and I also chose to purchase pure-bred puppies, as well. When you go to a reputable breeder, you know more of what you are getting in a dog. I don't think this is for everyone, and I do think there are many puppy mills out there...but this is not one of them. Don't lump all breeders together.

If more people did their homework, shelter dogs would not be so plentiful. Dogs are expensive, time-consuming, and a lot of work if they're raised correctly. Shame on you for being hurtful to this woman, and my heart goes out to the folks at Berkshire Veterinary, who are great people and amazing healers. Our dog was treated by them for months on end for an injury. They handled him, and us, with much TLC. They must feel just awful about this.

Dogs escape. It happens. Please try to help, and not hurt! Hope Jake makes it home...

(Having said all this, I do think more reporting on the missing woman, Brenda, should make the paper, folks! There has to be a story there.)

why is it there is a local woman missing right now, and last I heard another one from Dalton missing and we have big stories on missing dogs? Somethings wrong here.
I totally agree!! Pets are fine & good & innocent, but c'mon, really!! This article far surpassed in length the article on the missing Pittfield woman. Should it have? I don't think so!! Priorities, people!!!!

i was really hoping your post was sarcastic, but your name says it all.
this isn't "NEWS", as it's been in the classified ad section WHERE IT BELONGS for God knows how long.
if you read the other posts here, you would know that there's a missing woman who was barely mentioned in the Eagle when she was reported missing ... i don't even recall a picture of her being published.
yet here's this DOG on the FRONT PAGE ...
you obviously don't live in this area, so you don't know what's going on here.
and if you're tired of hearing about ""Who's been shot", "Victim dies in drive my shooting", Career drug dealer sentenced to 3 weeks in prison", "Assault and battery at late night club", "Bullets ring out in Morningside community" ... news flash - it ain't all good news up here in the beautiful Berkshires.
so by all means, sell your second home/timeshare or find somewhere else to spend your summers, because we certainly don't need $$ from heartless pricks like you.
the family, friends & those looking for Brenda Ovitt are heartbroken over their LOSS as well, her story is "NEWS" too.
not that anyone's surprised, but one would THINK that her community newspaper would treat her better than a dog.
for those who truly care about Brenda, there's a Facebook group that you can join to support her family, friends & those looking for her (& get updates about the situtation)... i encourage you all to join if you're on Facebook.

Thank you all for your show of support about the eagle's less than stellar decision. I feel for the lost dogs family, it sucks when u lose a pet. But Brenda is a human being who we all want to see come home safe. There iis a fb group "help find brenda ovitt" and we would be thrilled to have more people join for updates and the like. No wonder the local newspaper chose this article over the missing woman.... it has gone "to the dogs". With their reporting they should be renamed the Berkshire Beagle!

More than once the Eagle has missed a big story. 2 months ago there was a hit and run Crash on Main street in Dalton at 5 in the afternoon. The driver was in a stolen truck, and drunk. No coverage. A month ago I heard of a horrific head on crash on Route 8 in Dalton - again no coverage. There was however coverage of this incident and also a story of the dog who ran away after being in a car accident. Is this news? The Berkshire's needs real news reporting. No wonder they have to call and beg people to subscribe!
