One thing was missing in the annexation article. It is ALL about money(more tax dollars for politicans pet projects) We need to say in this election year "enough is enough' and cast our ballots for canidates that beleive in democratic government not a tax and spend. We need to clean house from Asheville to Raleigh and pull the plug on self willed politicans.

According to an archived News & Observer article dated June 4, 1959, the General Assembly approved the current N.C. Annexation law on June 3, 1959. Prior to that date, citizens were required to vote on annexation. In fact, residents of Coley Forest-Ridge had recently voted not to come into Raleigh's corporate limits. This motivated lawmakers on that fateful day of June 3, 1959 to approve the no-vote annexation law because a study commission had concluded: "North Carolina urban growth was being 'stifled' by requirements that elections were necessary before areas could be annexed." A good example of what forced annexation can produce is the city of Charlotte which occupies all of Mecklenburg County. But wait - aren't we missing the clear message that our forefathers gave us in the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and Constitutional Amendments? Remember Patrick Henry who declared as the British were encroaching, "give me liberty or give me death!" The American Revolutionary War occurred because involuntary taxation was being imposed by the British on the colonists, as well as other injustices. The tax on tea was the straw that broke the camel's back for the colonists and thus, the Boston Tea Party occurred. We are in a like situation in North Carolina with forced annexation being rampant throughout the state. Urban growth is not the issue here as annexation supporters would have you think. No -- it is the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution that is at odds with this involuntary annexation practice. This Amendment guarantees an individual's right to have a SAY on issues that affect him - especially taxation and property.
Nowhere does it say in this Amendment that municipal rights trump individual rights. Perhaps, the best place to settle this issue is in the courts - if not the N.C. Supreme Court, then in the U.S. Supreme Court sworn to uphold the U.S. Constitution. Actually, N.C. lawmakers are also sworn to uphold the N.C. Constitution and the U.S. Constitution. Perhaps they have forgotten what it means to be an American because they are so heavily influenced by money and perks provided by the most powerful lobby in Raleigh which is the N.C. League of Municipalities. This lobbyist operates a "shadow government" on behalf of municipalities that pay their League dues with taxpayer money. The League acts as an unofficial branch of the N.C. legislature by telling lawmakers what is or is not acceptable in regard to forced annexation. Naturally, the League wants no changes in the law or an imposed moratorium. Its very existence and taxpayer funding depends on the continuance of forced annexation. They care nothing about democracy. Let us remember that only N.C lawmakers are empowered to make and execute the laws of this state, not the League. If N.C. lawmakers do not halt this illegal practice of forced annexation, I see no other option for the people of this state but to VOTE THE VILLAIN LAWMAKERS OUT OF OFFICE! That's one thing the League cannot control unless they start looking over your shoulder in the voting booth this November.

I had to retire due to health and now the local city wants to tax me beyond my means.

I used to think Osama and radical Islam was my enemy now the people who can hurt me most are just 6 miles away.
Sadly I am beginning to understand why Muslims want American imperialist off their property and now I want that for myself. I am not proud to even be in a country that can force you to live inside a city I move from to avoid taxes I could not afford.
I no long hate Osama or radical Islam I hate forced annexation.

You've already missed the main opportunity to clean house.... the primary election May 6, 2008. most of the races were decided by who made it through the primary. For instance, you have the choice between Beverly Perdue and Pat McCrory for governor. A Mike Easley disciple and the mayor of Charlotte, a big government RINO who supports forced annexation. Not much will change in the governor's mansion when the best people for the job didn't even get through to the general election.

I also would point out that North Carolina has been under the control of Democrats for 140 years, so don't re-elect a Democrat and expect a change.... I'm not a Republican BTW, just a conservative and a realist. The D's have gotten us where we are and they ain't gonna change, the R's are the only hope for reform in Raleigh.

Annexation is a neo-slavery, simply put. If slavery is defined as forcing another to work against their will and with no reward - and it is - then forced annexation fits that defenition perfectly- and it does. North Carolina has a dark and long history of using some form of slavery to turn its economic wheels, and they used the same excuse in the past - economic necessity.
It is time theat the Democratic majority stopped dragging their knuckels - along with their citizens - and joined the 21 Century. We should all - the annexed, the City residents, and thoes yet to be annexed - be ashamed or our barbaric, backward, vicious, unintelligent approach for raising tax revenue for the cities in this state. Come visit Lexington on my website, but only there...if you spend the night here you may wake up to find you have been annexed! lexingtontruth.com Keith Bost

forced annexation is allowed in only 4 states, so it stands to reason that the democrats would be responsible for it in NC, as they have been running the show for 100+ years, and they ARE the original party of SLAVERY!

Call or write Sen. Hugh Holliman and and ask him to help us fight forced annexation, or ask him to step down and allow someone who can do the job take his post.

I see force annexation as an act of aggression and i assume there will be tanks involved as Hitler rolled into Poland in WW2.

If I did what the cities of nc are doing to acquire money and power I would be charged with taking property by false pretences, theft, and extortion then jailed. When the mafia does this it invokes the rico act. I know many people in my area that are fearful of losing their homes to taxation and fees imposed on them by city councils who snicker at their pleas.
We must all take a stand against oppressive government or they will only get bolder in the future. We have given far too much power to people who have lost touch with our lives as citizens. We need to elect and support those who care about us and fire every pol who wont.

We can write all we want. We can make speaches in our town meetings. But they still wont care. Until the many show the few they want action now, the few will just laugh at us.

Playing nice does not work. We need National attention.

One elderly man told me that if annexed he would fight as he did in Germany.
Would or could he use the second amendment as his defense. He must be in his eighties.

Force is the only answer but who wants to go to jail to live in a city you already know is corrupt. I say sell out, move and leave them with empty streets and watch these one horse towns dry up.

There are many kinds of force, my friend. The kind that works and does not land you in jail is the force of many angry people at meetings. Force the issue with numbers, they do listen when you show up with numbers.... it scares the bejeezus out of the politically.

It is possible to do the impossible... look at what "Let Asheville Vote" achieved. There were literally hundreds of angry peasants in the Asheville City Hall for every meeting last summer. Council was forced to pay attention whether they wanted to or not.... it can be done if you can get some folks together.

And begging will not work. Only forcing them to listen as the poster WWJD explained. Show up, speak up and stay the course.

Join the Fair Annexation group- and the stopncannexation - both of which are on the web. Only when we all join together th fight thiosd vulgar legalized extortion scheme they call Forced Annexation will we insure some freedom for our children and grandchildren. Vote Republican, at least on a State level. NC is the only state in the Nation without some form of property protection in its state constitution...Keith Bost - lexingtontruth.com
