Sad part about it though is he has two daughters, one 13, the other 21, and it is tearing them all to hell. It's never easy for the family, but not every case is like that. I know many children who've stuck by their transgendered parents and love them unconditionally, which is how it should be.

I remember growing up and eating Cheetos and thinking "Am I a Cheeto?" After moving from somewhere else (like everyone does here), I realized...I AM A CHEETO. I have since begun covering myself with cheese power and oil. I do have trouble breathing inside the plastic bag I live in though...I love Asheville, I haven't found another Cheeto yet, but its only a matter of time... That's ok, I love it when people in my hometown show their ignorance too. Hate to burst your bubble, but approximately 1 in 500 folks don't have what most folks think is "standard" DNA, or XX and XY. There's more DNA variety than you realize. Good luck with your snack food transition though, you're already there intellect-wise...

I di the math, and find it hypcritiical that Boswell came to Asheville in 1976 and began living as a woman. However he/she somehow managed to use his/her prick on a woman and get her prgnant. He/she now has a 21 year old son.
Seems to me that it is just a me me me state of mind, and they often want it both ways.
I have known many transgendered and transsexuals throughout my life. Never once was I fooled by what they had been. They were usually hard working, good people that just wanted to live.
Then just like overzealous Christians, flaming gay, and the look at me, acknowledge me trans whatevers. There are those that refuse to allow others to live and let live.
Keep your lifestyle out of my face and I will keep mine out of yours.
PS. Don't start demanding tax money to help you with your gender identity issue. It's elective and not life threatening.

Transgendered folks have lived among us for centuries. Medical science has only recently created the surgeries by which one may transform the physical body to better match one's gender. Transgender people have existed in virtually all cultures around the world. Native Americans often used the term "Two Spirit" for transgender tribe members and the "Two Spirits" often held a place of great honor in the tribe, such as shamen or healers. More information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two-Spirit Had I known about the event in advance, I would have attended. I support the courage of trans people who are living their lives with dignity and honor.

I'm not transgender and I didn't think I knew any transgendered people until a couple of people I knew told me they were trans -- one in the 1980s and then another in the 1990s. I would never have known because, once they have transitioned, they blend right in with everyone else. I imagine we encounter transgendered people every day, talk to them or work with them or go to church with them and don't have a clue they are trans.

It is very refreshing to hear from a Christian that seems to be full of love and light...it is sad that so many evil people hide behind your religion and disguise racism and hate as Christianity...if only more people could believe the way that you do...maybe it would be easier for us non-believers to believe...thank you

My God loves all people! Those self proclaimed Christians here know NOT what they speak. What a bunch of judgemental hippocrites. I'll bet these are the same people that write all those nasty remarks about anyone that is "different" than they are. Thanks, but I like who I am...I don't think you do!

I am a DEVOUT Chrisitian AND I am supportive of these people- many of whom have gone through living hell trying to manage their birth defects.
NONE of us can help the parts we are born with- or without.
If my son was born without an arm and he could get medcine or surgery to fix it, I would support him in that effort.
If my daughter was born with an extra arm and she could get medicine or surgery to fix that, I would support her in that effort.
In neither case would I expect them to sit back and drown in a sea of depression just because other people didn't understand or didn't think they should get the treatments.
WAKE UP, PEOPLE!
These folks are just folks. Many have been through exraordinarily trying circumstances and don't need us criticizing them at every turn.
It is very hard getting used to the idea that the person we are looking at spent a big part of their life being the other sex, but as hard as it is to accept initially, but we need to get over it.
(I don't much like folks of ANY persuasion who have indiscreet sex lives- but this is a different issue all together.)
I feel that these folks just want to be 'normal' and be treated respectfully. We can do that if our hearts are truly in the right place. God loves them as much as anybody else. I KNOW he didn't want us to be mean to them.
I am ashamed of my brothers and sisters in Christ who would treat these folks badly.

I have to say, I have several trangendered friends now and I find them to be some of the most intelligent, articulate, self-aware individuals I have ever known. Imagine how it must be to truly feel as if you are trapped in the wrong body. These people pursue a road to self realization that is harder than I can fathom. They deserve our respect and support...not judgement. Until you have walked in someone's shoes (dare I say high heels LOL!), don't pass judgement. And that's why I suggested that transgendered people need prayers. I actually have run across transgendered people and thanks to our "anything goes" media, have seen and heard their arguments throughout my entire life. These people have serious issues. If they feel "trapped" in the "wrong body" then they'll have to take it up with God. Life isn't easy and isn't supposed to be easy. We all have struggles in life but we're expected to carry our crosses with dignity, working with and being thankful for what we have. Changing one's gender is very disprespectful to God and let's face it, doesn't look very convincing after the surgery is over. Transgendred women look like men in drag and transgendered men look like tomboys. That's not being judgmental, that's telling it like it is.

Looks like you have been watching too many Springer and Povich shows! This is s subject that is almost impossible for you to explore as those who live trans, do so in "stealth mode". In other words, they live and work in their new gender role without telling anyone around them (Much safer this way as evidenced by some of the comments onthis board). They are not the ones who go on the TV shows, with few exceptions for those noteable transfolks who are trying to educate, not entertain you.

Andrew wrote: <quoted text> If they feel "trapped" in the "wrong body" then they'll have to take it up with God. Why do you think they don't? Most of the transgender folks I've met are Christian and they have a relationship with Christ, just as you and I do. Christ is the only one who knows our hearts. No human can see that or judge that. Andrew wrote: <quoted text> Changing one's gender is very disprespectful to God First, they don't change their gender. We are all born with gender characteristics -- sometimes those characteristics are an exact match to what our society thinks they should be and sometimes they aren't. What trans people do typically change (although not always) is aspects of their physical body. So, why would it be "disrepectful" to God to change a body part or take a hormone? All sorts of people change their physical bodies -- hair color, hair removal, nose jobs, tummy tucks, breast reductions/enhancements, removal of tonsils, replacement of real teeth with false teeth, all manner of surgeries. And all sorts of people take hormones as well. No one ever suggests that changing the body in these ways is "disrespectful to God."

For those who say the above are "cosmetic, then what about the children with life threatening of disfiguring birth defects ("God made") who undergo treatment to repair so they can live a full and useful life? Should we not treat cancer, heart disease, etc because they are part of "God's plan"?
