What didn't look right Van? Please elaborate. You stated during your campaign you were clueless. I suspect a little guilt by association.

Seems Duncan has opened a can of worms!

Since this came out AFTER he won, how could he have used this in his campaigning? Stop being a hater. Sheriff Duncan is a good man. |
yeah , just like he said he knew nothing nor had any hand in this incident but then got on the stand and said differently, you may be blind but that doesn't mean we all are , you are probably a county employee or a family member of a cop.if thats the case then you are coming on this a little bias don't you think? all i know is as i said before , from now on im voting for a change of sheriff every four years. |

Anyone that stopped in a convenience store knew this was going on. The statement that he "knew but couldn't prove it," is simply playing the politics at the time. If he knew it was going on, he could have actually caught the clerks paying out on the machines and effected an arrest. Van Duncan WAS just like the rest of the Medford-bots. He looked the other way. Fortunately for him, some sense of morality did kick in, and he managed to "Make it through the rain," and the voters decided that he was a better choice than Medford in 2006. There is nothing that makes me think that Van Duncan isn't a good Sheriff of Buncombe county, and no reason to believe that he was just a pawn who decided to stop being played like one in Medford's pathetic game of video poker. Again, anyone that walked into a convience store, and was a regular would witness this ... and clerks were pretty chatty. My only problem with this now is hold overs from Medford who swear that they didn't know that any of this was going on. My question is if I can see it, why can't they? They have the badge and the gun, after all. And, even Duncan has admitted that he was complicit in all of this through his silence. M2C |

OK, let's give Duncan the benefit of the doubt. He has to prove to the citizens of Buncombe County that the Sheriff's Department will stay clean. So everybody, just hide and watch. He knows he's under the microscope.

I concur with Silverwolf, the sheriff department is more than under a microscope. Van Duncan has done alot to bring professional to that department, and sad to say it hasn't been pretty. While it isn't out in our faces as APD, deputies are being held accountable for their actions. If some of the Copwatchers would spend a little time on what the sheriff department is doing it would be known.

Bobby is a good man to don't forget that. No matter if he did take money from this he gave back to the people more than he ever took. Look at the crime now you did not see all this when Bobby was in office. He done alot for the citizens to feed them clothes on the backs. This Duncan im not sure he knows how to tie his socks. All you people with the hate need to do your research on Medford and what he did for the people all the help programs etc. Most of you were not even living here during most or maybe all of his time in office. Bobby you always have a friend in me no matter what happend. |

I WAS here, so I can speak....Help Programs? Maybe I missed that and you could refresh our memory? The motivation behind ANYTHING that former Sheriff Medford did was simply "would it benefit Bobby"? If the answer was "yes", then it was full steam ahead! The key question he always asked "how will this make me look come the next election"? Here's your "help program" - Under a special program ALE funded Sheriff's deputies to identify stores who were selling alcohol to underage kids. One of Medford's cronies was caught selling to a 17 year old, but before the officer could even get back to his car, Medford was on the phone telling the officer to "lay off!" So much for helping solve the problem of alcohol sales to kids in Buncombe County. |

He was the sheriff of Buncombe County, not Nottingham. |

LMAO!!
Oh Mercy, I was here as well. Okay he had personal that called and checked on the eldery. He had officers that couldn't spell the word "moral" or "ethic", and he knew it, but they were still employed there.(All you had to do was sit at Denny's on Patton Avenue on a Friday or Saturday night to witness the moral character of some of those deputies) And let us not forget the family members, who liked to beat on their wives and "get lost" in Deaverville, who worked in the jail and the courthouse,in uniform, til the day Medford lost the election. |
|
Duncan is as pure as the driven slush. he still has one of the poker machine owners working at the jail.

Maybe Mr. Duncan does want things to change, but does he want it badly enough to get rid of some of the rest of Medfords leftovers. There are still some officers that should have been booted instead of making them 'detectives'.(I use this term VERY loosely)

Help me understand.
Gamblers put money in the video poker machines. Machine owners took it out. They gave some of it back to the gamblers (especially the ones with low-cut blouses) and some of it to other men around town (some of them with badges). So we've all but assainated Medford for being in the loop. What about ALL the others? What about the ones who got on the stand and LIED? What about the little darlings who would go play poker on their lunch hour and come back to work regularly with over $1000 in winnings? Was tax money ever paid on the winnings or the profits? If we are all about truth and justice, we have a long way to go with this one. |

It used to be that peace officers were honorable men. Now they are nothing more than federal stooges who operate as revenue generators for the state. Duncan is no different than Medford. Crooks will be crooks.
|
|
Medford was simply getting a cut outside the loop of the crooks in Raleigh. He was a crook, but no worse than the crooks in Raleigh. Hey, the perps of the idiot tax (aka, the state lottery) must punish those who don't cut them in. Again, this simply goes to prove my point...cops are crooks. Medford was his own crook, Duncan will enforce the crookery of the state. My, how wonderful the legalized mafia is, eh? |

The Sheriff's office isn't responsible for "traffic". APD and Highway patrol are who you should be contacting for issues with vehicles. |

why single bobby out He is not the ony sheriff in western nc . so lets lock them all up
