Just to clear things up, It's not Winter Solstice or Fall Equinox. It's called Samhain (Sow-in). And it's the only time when the Vail between our world and those that has past is the thinnest. We celebrate this day as a day of remembering our passed loved one. It has nothing to do with worshiping a devil, that is solely a Christian concept. We can not worship some thing we do not believe is real. Fall Equinox is around Sept. 22 and Winter Solstice is between Dec. 21-22.

Witches, Pagan's, and Wiccans are not FORCING anyone to celebrate this day. Unlike others who have to force their beliefs on anyone they deem to be wrong. Hmmmm "Thou shalt not judge." comes to mind.

Dang witch mom did your broom have engine trouble. This thread is over a year old. You can dress in black, dance around trees, get close to the dead and try to get on the news or in it. I love to watch your group parade around, it is very entertaining. I know a few posters here that would fit in with your group. One is an old sot, one is a couple bricks shy of a load and the other likes to control everyone's thoughts but don't know how. If interested you can get in touch with them.

Spooky Halloween contact lenses have become so popular you can't win a contest without a pair.

They make prescription and non prescription Halloween contacts too. They aren't all expensive either.

Just shows you where the world is going--especially since Asheville has been invaded by the 'funny' people.
Wonder if Harry Potter was 'funny' too.

Sounds like you are one of the funny people you are talking about!

Yep, people always complaining about things. I've no doubt that it was the Jews that attempted to change the "Merry Christmas" parade & sayings in the schools and in society to "Happy Holidays." Happy Holidays my ass! The Saying has always been "Merry Christmas" around my part of the world and always will be, too. No matter how hard the Jews cry and bellyache about "life being unfair" and political correctness and all of that crap!

Hey Richard,
think about this it's all hollows eve, and there are those who celebrate it in many different ways. It is fun for the kids and myself to dress up, but then there are wiccans and pagans that celebrate with rituals. Satanics are allowed there celebrations as well. this coutry is supposed to be supportive of eveyones beliefs. why can't you be supportive or keep it to yourself. wiccans and pagans are different than satanics, and they all disserve to celebrate how they want as long as no one gets hurt. I'm pagan and plan to celebrate it my way. I don't judge you, so, don't judge me. If you're so christian then follow you commandments. "thou shalt not judge"

They changed the name of the Christmas Parade to the Holiday Parade. What could we call Halloween since some of us don't celebrate it? It would make just as much sense to change the name of the Halloween celebration to the Fall Celebration. It is ok for the wiccans to celebrate Halloween but Christmas is down the tube to the people in charge of making the rules.
Both Halloween (Samhain) and Christmas (Yule) are pagan holidays, dear. But I actually sort of agree with you in making it all-inclusive. However the "Christmas" holiday has many alternatives such as Kwaanza, Chanukka, etc. Whereas Halloween is just a derivative of Samhain. Not to mention if you went to the "Fall Celebration," you would prob still be celebrating either Halloween, Samhain, or your harvest. So I think if you didn't recognize any of the three you wouldn't be going anyway!
P.S. I thought they just called the Christmas Parade the Holiday Parade because they do it mid-season anyway!:) lol

Samhain is a Gaelic festival held on October 31ľNovember 1. The Irish name Samhain is derived from Old Irish and means roughly "summer's end".[2] A harvest festival with ancient roots in Celtic polytheism, it was linked to festivals held around the same time in other Celtic cultures, and continued to be celebrated in late medieval times. Due to its date it became associated with the Christian festival All Saints' Day, and greatly influenced modern celebration of Halloween.

Yeah, everyone should just ignore centuries of harvest tradition. Because Christians just ruin the planet with S.U.V.'s and more houses. Christians should realize that this is the only planet we have(at the moment). We should show thanks to where we live. This is what halloween is all about. A$$hole.

OH PLEASE!! This is the most ridiculous discussion. Richard: are you serious? Asheville has been "invaded by the 'funny' people"? I'm assuming you are referring to the wide diversity of people that this WONDERFUL city holds... gays, lesbians, hippies, goths, yuppies, rockers, christians, jews, artists, bankers... you get my drift. Welcome to the real world. If you are really that ignorant and unaccepting, maybe you should move to Mississippi. Asheville has no room for folks like you.
I couldn't agree more with your reply! Asheville is an oasis of progressive ideas and I love it. If you're stuck in old rigid ideas there are much more appropriate places. But be careful, they may find something "funny" about you to dislike.

It is nice to know that your foolish worshiping of an imaginary being makes more sense to you than a holiday that honors the dead.
To quote hunter s. thompson,
"Human beings are the only creatures on Earth that claim a god and the only living thing that behaves like it hasn't got one"
Enjoy your ignorance. Sheep.

The holiday of All Hallows Even was actually popularized by Christian settlers: they believed that demons would run amok on the night of All Hallows Even, thus they dressed up like the demons in order to be spared misfortune.
As for the Winter Solstice, that's actually on Christmas. Christianity incorporated the Winter Solstice into their days of worship in order to attract more followers from different religions.
