Last night former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura made a secret visit to the devastated military families at Fort Hood.

The Bushes instructed the commander of the mourning military base that they wanted no publicity. With their Secret Service detail, Bush and his wife made the 30 mile trip unannounced from their ranch near Crawford, Texas Friday evening.

Even perhaps more interesting is this link from the Telegraph (UK) which I found at the bottom of your LA Times article:

Hmmm, lets see, Bush acted controlled and intelligent on 9/11 and the left skewered him for not running out of the room in a panic. He didn’t force federal control onto Louisiana as Katrina neared and took a beating from the liberals for not invoking marshal law. Obama ignores the murder of 13 soldiers as he speaks to the nation, only to mention it after he made his jokes.

http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/politics/A-Dis...

Not surprising that the media made no mention of Obama's lack of interest of empathy for the soldiers and their families. Now Bush showed his presidential experience and class by not only going but doing so quickly and without requiring photo-ops and fan fare as a reason to go. Obama will wait till everything can be set up for him to milk it before he goes.

Loved them by sending them into iraq when the real fight was afghanistan? By dressing up in a flight suit and declaring "Mission accomplished" at least 5 years too early?

He loved them so much he set up failure in Iraq by allowing the arms depots of Saddam to be looted, along with museums, Palaces, businesses and everything else by demobilizing the Police and Military and turning the nation into anarcy rather than stabilizing the nation after invading for some stupid reasons, like "Daddy Issues"! Then for the next 4+ years, allowed Rummy to play out a theory of "lighter, less armed military" that got thousands killed and tens of thousands wounded and created a training ground for Al Qaeda and other indiginous insurgent groups. All the while ignoring OBL and Afghanistan which led to more troops getting killed and maimed. Bush never honored the dead as they arrived at Dover, not once, but heck Ft. Hood is in the neighborhood!

Heh, heh, heh, guess you missed the classroom edition where he looked like a deer caught in a spotlight and didn't know what to do and someone had to say, "hey, stupid, you need to go"! Then he disappeared for a couple of days while they cleaned out his britches and stopped him from crying for his daddy. Wonder what kind of drugs they had to give him to come back and be out in public? Obama on the other hand, has acted cool, thoughtful and respectful and not come out with statements like "bring it on" or "OBL wanted Dead or Alive" and other such childish statements while going, "juk, juk, juk or heh, heh, heh"! Yep, that "W" acted like an adult, NOT!

Hey, "W" let a request from McChrystal set on his desk for the last 8 months of his presidency. Obama, upon taking office, immediately sent those 20,000 troops to Afghanistan. He is now weighing a further request for troops to try and fix what "W" and Rummy/Cheney "F'd Up". Best think is to bring all the troops home. It only took 287 CIA/Delta guys, working with Warlords to send the Taliban and OBL out of Afghanistan to start with. "W" could have killed OBL and his 4,000 followers at Tora Bora but chose not to, so it goes with mindless children who get into power because their daddy has political friends and influence. Here we are, over 8 years later, probably 300,000 innocent Iraqis and Afghanis killed, over 5,000 Americans killed and 60,000 troops wounded/maimed for life and Trillions of dollars in dept, plus a Billion dollar embassy that is virtually useless in Baghdad and what has been accomplished? Nothing but hanging a dictator who was friends with Reagan and Bush Daddy and threatened the Bush family business partners, the Saudis, and Israel! Obama is trying to figure out the best way to stop the slaughter and drain on our resources that "W" started!

Bush met with plenty of grieving military families.

At least 55 U.S. forces have been killed in October. That's the deadliest month of the war for U.S. forces since the 2001 invasion to oust the Taliban.

Obama should have paid a visit as he is dragging his feet in making a clear decision regarding Afghanistan. He called it the war of necessity but seems to be unable to make a decision on strategy.
