Celebrate The Losers, hang up your Confederate Flag !
It has no connection to slavery, and was never a sybol of slave ownership. Owning slaves was something only rich people could afford, and the flag was not just for the rich, but for all southern confederate states. Many slaves were held in Northern Border states that remained faithful to the Union, and flew the American Flag, maybe we should ban its' use. The Confederate flag just wasn't connected in any way to slavery no matter how badly Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson wish it was.

The U.S. would not exist, we'd be just like Europe, a lot of little country's like France with their own petty ideas about who they allow to do what. New York and New England would have never allowed the south to win. The Civil War was fought with the North holding one hand behind its back according to the Civil War historian, the late Shelby Foote, a southerner. He said they would have just taken the other hand and crushed the south if it had come to that. The south in the 1860's was even more backward than it is today, and there was no industry to speak of and the railroad had about 1/4 the track that existed in the North, which had a much larger population to inscript into the military if it had been needed.

If the whites had to die on both sides in massive numbers, who's to say it wasn't God's will. Evil lost and the rivers of blood of Americans was spilled to allow right to prevail. The Great sin of Abortion must end someday, and I'd bet the price will again be rivers of blood. Evil never dies without a fight. Life begins at conception, after that it's murder. The Blessed Mother was called, "The Immaculate Conception" because she was free from sin from the moment her life began, at her IMMACULATE conception. The weight of that sin may have allowed the Bush Presidency to exist, look at all the damage it has done. The lie that Bush is pro-Life when it has caused so much death must amuse the devil no end.

Ed, try reading "The Real Lincoln", by Thomas J. DiLorenzo. It is an eye opener. You'll find that several Northern states planned to secede, but Lincoln held them in by threats.

I read "The Real Lincoln" and subsequently attended a conference titled "Lincoln Reconsidered" in Richmond, VA in 2004. It was indeed eye-opening; the victor, it seems, gets to record his own version of history. Jeff Dreibus

I think the first time I saw who won the War so quickly was a trip to the Vicksburg Battleground. The Yankee side was well groomed, new roads, and hugh monuments. The Southern side started off with the road having been the practise ground for the striping crews, on the old CCC roads. I haven't been back. Then I started paying real attention to the books being published. They are nothing like the ones I read in school in Asheville (too long ago). Yup, the winner sure writes his own version. But you know, they really didn't win, did they?

Whether you like it or not, the flying of the Confederate flag (or any other flag) is protected under the 1st Amendment to the Constitution. It cannot be banned...at least not without an amendment to the Constitution.

There is a high school here that had to change the name of their sports teams, and cease using the Confederate flag as their symbol. The blacks and the NAACP raised so much 7734, and threatened to sue, that it was changed. Sad, but true. Hope y'all have a Happy Thanksgiving. Just keep in mind the many reasons we have to be thankful, and to whom. See y'all, R

On one side of the family I there were 5 brothers who walked north to join the Army. Three of them stopped in Richmond and the other two continued north. None of them ever owned a slave but each fought for what he felt was right in his own mind. After the war 4 of the brothers returned to their homes and nothing more was said concerning which side they fought on. There was no fighting over two of the brothers attending the ceremony’s that honored the Confederate dead under the flag which they fought. The same was said of the others who attended ceremony’s honoring those who fought for the north. Today we honor all of those brothers. The fifth, who was thought to have been dead did not die. I located his grave and his history in Deadwood SDak where he was the first chief of the Volunteer Fire Dept. One of his offspring’s children was the one who gave the tour of the museum and others had moved on to settle in what is now Oregon. I have no problem today with those who use the flag properly. I do object to those who have made it a banner of hatred. An object for which it was never intended. To think otherwise only shows ignorance and intolerance and you dare call those who honor that flag properly, bigots.
Look in the mirror as you screech those words for there is where the bigotry appears.
