This native southerner isn't surprised by the racial slur. Some of us are still fighting the Civil War, after all. Others long for a return to the Jim Crow days. Of late some have even been heard making "Where's James Earl Ray when we need him?" jokes about Senator Obama's run for the White House.

Thank God most southerners know that this country is a better, fairer, more just and equitable, and culturally richer country because of strong and brave African-Americans like Thorogood Marshall, Martin Luther King,Jr., and Barack Obama.

The necons and others on the far right don't want economic justice in this country. They don't care if America is fast becoming a third world toilet. They'll be safe behind the walls of their gated communties relying on the same immigrant slave labor to cook their meals and iron their shirts that they rail against in order to get white folks to vote for them. This is the same bunch that wants Hillary to be the Democratic nominee because they know they it'll be easier use sexism to beat her than it will be to use racism against Obama. This is why so many of them in states like Ohio and Texas switched their party affiliation in order to keep Hillary in the running.

As usual the eventual outcome of the 2008 general election will hinge on which way the independents swing. I, for one, am betting that regardless of who the eventual Democratic nominee is, they will take a good look at what has been done to this country and its international reputation in the past seven and half years and decide they just can't take a chance on four more years of a Republican in the White House.

No comment here. I just hope that enough people can understand where this type thinking comes from.
It would be nice if we had a Republican running. Still McCain may slow this hell bent dash for socialism just a little.

We hear all this BS about "Change" but, we hear nothing of the details of the "changes"! What are the changes Obama would make, could make? What are his ideas, his suggestions, his policies, his thoughts, his beliefs, etc. What has he done? He ran for senator and immediately upon winning that, started running for president. What has he done? What would he do? Everyone wants changes from "W" and his administration but why should we buy another "Pig in a Poke", an unknown entity who goes around spouting "hope and change", but to what? Where's the substance in his "change" talk?

McCain is just an older version of "W"! If you want to "Stay the Coarse", vote for W.McCain, otherwise known as McNasty "The Punk" to his close friends!

All of his plans for change are right there on his website, but everytime he tries to detail one of them, the media pundits and right-wing blowhards label him an "out-of-touch elitist." Of course, that's what McCain and Clinton want you to believe, too. That's why they're out selling their gas tax snake oil to pander to the lowest common denominator. No economist in his or her right mind thinks a six-month gas tax break will do anything to solve our long-term energy problems. It's just the same old politics as usual from the same old crowd...

CHANGE?
Use less oil.
That is about all I have heard come out of his mouth. Chit, it don't matter who wins in this election---its all the same tap dance.

I don't know that I will vote for a president as there isn't one out there in these parties. Local elections will be alot easier to decide on.

The letter writer's judgment has to be questioned if he is living in Macon county AND publicly supporting Obama.

Folks up there were raised on common sense, not pipe dreams of 'hope for change' that are spewed from the mouth of a confused and divisive politician. Nothing solid has come from his lips except that he wants the government to provide MORE, which any working person knows means we will pay more and more and more taxes.

Local working people see right through THAT one's hype.

I also agree with Mtnbred. If you can't afford the gas prices going up at less than the rate of inflation, then buy LESS. Duh.

Use less oil? Tell that to the long-haul truckers who deliver everything from groceries to big ticket items, even to stores in Macon County. There's reason why eggs, milk, and bread are up as much as 200% from this time last year, and it doens't have anything to do with farmers...

Mr. McCoy appears to be just another of those simply in love with a rock star. Barack says change, but doesn't tell us what he will change. His web site is verbose, but vague on the details.

It came as no surprise to me that it was added in the LTE that a racial slur was uttered. I'm sure it could have been two black youths standing on the side of the road refering to eachother, and it would have been written as it was. Obamas people have run a race based on division and race. If somone disagrees with Obama, it is not accepted as a valid opinion, but as racism.

Both Barack (in his book) and Michelle have claimed racism to advance their political ambitions. Why in the world would we want someone that is going to divide us down racial lines in the White House?

And as for the earlier comment siting Jim Crowe. You do realize the Democrat party founded the KKK, and Jim Crowe was a Democrat. It never fails to amuse me how the liberals cling to the Democrat party being the party of the masses, when clearly they were the party against the masses.

That's old news, fully acknowledged by life-long southerm Democrats, and, no, we're not proud of it. But riddle me this: What has the party of Lincoln done for working class African Americans lately, besides leaving them to drown in New Orleans? Why is it so few of them are lining up to vote G.O.P.? Can you explain that?

And, BTW, I'm betting you've haven't even glanced at Obama's website much less actually read it.

Might not get him lynched, but might get a cross burned on his yard. Isn't that you're implying?(nudge, nudge, wink, wink)

Riddle me that. It was the Democrat Mayor and Governor of Louisiana that stalled the aid that President Bush ordered sent to New Orleans.

As for why the sheeple continue to vote year after year for the Democrates. That is simple enough. You have an uninformed mass of people that vote like their parents did before them. These are the same people that wouldn't vote at all except Democrates show up in their projects every voting day with busses to take them to the poll. Who else would they vote for.

As to whether I looked at Obamas web site or not. Gordon posted the link to his web site on a string yesterday. He invited me to read the site to find out what Obama was about. Since I was invited, and I like to be informed I went to the web site.

I was a little put off that the site was a little insistant that you sign up for the news letter before you could enter the site. I found the opt out button, and went in to become educated.

So you see I do at least make an attempt to know what I am talking about. But thanks for questioning me about it.

So, black people vote for "Democrates" because they're ignorant. Is that really what you want to go on record as saying?

Have you heard McCain or Clinton say that suspending the gas tax would solve our long-term energy problems? NO? I didn't think so.

I heard Obama wants to tax Americans with a United Nations "world poverty relief act" tax - is that true? Does he really want us to pay a UN tax?

I certainly wouldn't limit it to black people or white people or old people or young people. It's just most people vote for whoever makes them feel good. Not many actually do any research to see what the candidates have accomplished in the past or their proposals for the future.

Clearly no matter how we as a nation wish it would bw different ,our past is there in the history books and memories of our citizens. We need to step forward and break with the past if we truly hope to create a better future Barack Obama is our best chance to do that in this day and age.we can develop a new way of governing(Lord knows we need it)and reestablish america as a great nationwe didn't fall so far from grace by accidentwe need change, our childeren desrve changand the world needs change.
