She was probably thinking that she would park legally in the resident students' parking lot, and head to her residence hall, on a campus where security should be patrolling at 3:30 a.m.

Every time this paper reports something where someone has done something completely stupid, somebody goes and writes "let's not play 'blame the victim.' Okay, then while not blaming the victim, let's hold her responsible for doing something as stupid as walking across campus by herself at 3:30 am near one of the most dangerous streets (Broadway) in Asheville.

It would be a good idea to put some "decoy students" out about 3:00 am at different times (with back up of course). Let's see who turns up to relieve them of their money or possessions. Maybe we could get some of these folks off the street and maybe back at the mayor's or somewhere else.

While college campuses are never 100% safe, it seems to me that to walk from Highsmith to the dorm that is next door to campus security ought to be pretty safe, even at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. If not, then UNCA needs to beef up its security force after hours.

How the heck cares why she was out at that time, maybe she had Easter with her family and just returned from out of state ...

to imply that her motivation or mind set was less than your personal standards of behavior is moronic at best.

Maybe she had been studying for midterms at another dorm ... there are many what ifs.... what if the attackers had common sense and weren't "looking for trouble", what if the campus police patrolled the area in earnest?

This isn't the first assault / rape at UNCA....this rag doesn't report that bit of info!

Good thing she wasn't wearing a cheerleading uniform.

We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude?

Ask the white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy League recruiters handing out scholarships for "deserving" white kids.

Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and incarceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of white America?

Is it really white America's fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent?

Is that the fault of white America or, first and foremost, a failure of the black community itself?

As for racism, its ugliest manifestation is in interracial crime, and especially interracial crimes of violence.

White criminals choose black victims 3 percent of the time, black criminals choose white victims 45 percent of the time?

Black-on-white rapes are 100 times more common than the reverse, that black-on-white robberies were 139 times as common in the first three years of this decade as the reverse?

We have all heard ad nauseam from the Rev. Al (Sharp Knives) Sharpton about Tawana Brawley, the Duke rape case and Jena. And all turned out to be hoaxes. But about the epidemic of black assaults on whites that are real, we hear nothing.
We've all heard it before, about 40 years and 40 trillion tax dollars ago.

For the record, walking from Mills to Highsmith isn't the same as walking down Broadway. Just throwing that out there.

US Air pilot's gun accidentally goes off on plane
