One idea that seems to work is employee-sponsored athletic teams (softball, basketball, etc.) Another would be rewarding those who walk or bike to work rather than drive. Anything to get employees more active. The paragraph above merely treats the symptoms. But there isn't enough good information about employer-sponsored programs that work, said John Cawley, an expert in the economics of obesity at Cornell University. Employers don't know whether paying for nutrition counseling, obesity surgery or anti-obesity drugs through health insurance makes economic sense, he said.

As an overweight employee I can tell you that I have NEVER filed a workers comp claim nor had the insurance paying for "work related injuries". I work in the labor market sending employees to work every single day and I can't begin to count the number of skinny folks who have filed both legitimate and false workers comp claims and called off work because they were ill. But, if there is discrimination toward me due to my weight I will be the first to file suit. The problem today is that skinny people have always discriminated against the overweight worker and always failed to see their own shortcomings. Are the overweight workers doing such a great job that the skinny ones can't compete and get a job? Discrimination is wrong regardless of who it is against. But, wait! If there is someone out there who does not want me working and willing to pay all my bills speak now or shut up forever.

Hunter, did you really write this or is this your imposter? If you did, shame on you. While definitely not fat myself, to say something like this is low, even for you. |

any person who creates a higher risk for the employer should be carefully considered prior to employment and some well thought out remedies taken to place the blame for factors that make that person where they should belong.
