Wow, when I read this article I was in shock. Yes, he was able to strike out twice (6 strikes). Alcohol is obviously a serious problem for this man. I personally feel terrible. Not for this man, but for the situation that not only occurred, but also for the situation he has put himself and his family in. Yes he did wrong not once, but 6 times. But he isn't a terrible man; he is actually an extremely caring individual whom I have had the pleasure of knowing my entire life. I’m not going to judge what anyone above has posted. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. Alcohol is a drug. It has gotten the best of most of us at one point or another in our lives. Unfortunately the ramifications of alcohol can have a ripple effect, which hits family, friends, and in some cases unaware pedestrians.
I am a family member, and have seen Keith struggle with alcohol for a long time. He really has been doing so well for the past 5 years. It is disheartening to know that alcohol has once again gotten the best of him. I am in mild agreement to “No winners,” statement. It is true that he isn’t reading these comments; it is his family and friends. To assess my “mild” agreement, I feel that there are winners. The winners being citizens that could have easily been affected by his wrongful decisions. I’m not asking everyone to keep their opinions to themselves. I just want you to realize that the things you are saying aren’t affecting him, yet his family. His family, who know how great of an individual Keith is. Unfortunately, with a terrible problem that has continually brought his life down.

From today's NY Times: An off-duty school safety agent was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated after a one-car accident in the Bronx on Thursday night that killed her front-seat passenger.
As I said , happens to anyone that drinks and drive, no exception, now a human being is dead !

If I did have a relative who drank and drove and endangered everyone's lives, including mine I would judge him just as I am judging this guy. NOT for having an alcohol problem but for risking MY life by getting behind the wheel.

You people are so quick to judge maybe you should take a good long look at yourself. I'm sure you are all angels. I'm not saying he is right in what he did but lets face it no one is perfect!!!!! People are saying.."he's a great guy,etc etc", but would you people be saying things like this if the outcome had turned out differently and innocent lives were lost?? I feel bad for his family and understand that it must be difficult to go through this, but just imagine how hard it would be for the innocent people he could have hurt.

I do believe the people who know Mr. King have expressed that they understand completely why people are upset. Every one is upset & they have every right to be. No one is taking that away from anybody, and yes thank God nobody was hurt. There are no excuses or justifications for what Mr. King did. The system failed & Mr. King lost his battle with alcoholism…..again. Not a good combination. Maybe now laws will change & Mr. King will get the help that he needs, and somewhere in all of this there is a bright side so this sort of thing will never happen again. Mr. King is not just an alcoholic, or all the horrible things people are saying about him. He is a Father, a son, a brother, a nephew, an Uncle, a companion, & a friend.

Pretty much anything that Derek Pepple says or writes should be very carefully examined. The man is a liar in a dead end job as an Ashby Patrolman. We are a country of laws. Innocent until proven guilty. Right? So, the guy was allegedly driving under the influence. Says who? The career Ashby patrolman.. Let's see what comes out at trial..

Didn't John Adams represent British soldiers? Why yes, he did? Why? We are a country of laws that believes everyone deserves a fair trial. Ohh. That's right, we are aren't we? If you want to hang someone because of a charge, go to Nazi Germany. Or, perhaps Singapore would be right for you. Have a cigarette, lose your hand.. Excellent choice!

So what did the officer lie about? Where you there? Did he lie about the 6th offense? Did he lie about the breathalyzer being refused? The sad thing is that this guy will probably get off because he did not take a breathalyzer because he knows all the little tricks because he has been thru the system so many times. So you consider the officer in a dead end job. Does that mean every officer in a small town is in a dead end job or just in Ashby? Are officers in bigger towns like Townsend and Lunenburg also in dead end jobs? How about Fitchburg and Leominster? You sound like someone who is bitter because you lost your case against this officer or did you get a ticket from him?

How about 5 people, including me, one of whom is a toddler. Sorry to burst your bubble. No addicts/alcoholics here.

No addicts/alcoholics here. Parents? Grandparents? Great Grandparents? The whole point you missed in the midst of your soap box posting, is that this is an addiction problem, addiction makes people do things they wouldn't ordinarily do. Since you have no addicts (or you think you don't), in your wee family of five, then you inadvertently admit that you have no idea what you are talking about and are just being an ignorant and judgmental schmuck.

No - YOU are missing the point. I DON'T CARE if someone is an addict - they are only hurting themselves. I CARE if they get behind the wheel and endanger MY LIFE and my family's life. You think addiction is an excuse for bad behavior? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

Not one of my postings imply that I think addiction is an excuse for bad behavior, I am pretty sure that I stated bad things are a result of addictive behavior. Again, your language seems a bit naive.
