it's so peaceful here. clear skies and sighs. it's a leave raking and burning day around here. then football or a good book while listening to the hum of the furnace. chili and saltines and maybe some warn flan with just the right amount of carmelized topping. i've never known the difference between creme brulee and flan. one of life's great mysteries.

Pineapple upside down cake, haven't thought about that in years. My mom use to make that all the time for my dad. Every birthday that is what he would ask for. I wonder if she still makes. Both of them watch what they eat now.
Right now they went on vacation, some kind of tour. They went to Hawaii. That is where I want to go for my 30 wedding anniversary. How fun.
Yesterday was beautiful, but I spent the day inside after Mass and steam cleaned my living room carpet. Last time I do that. Even thou it came out real nice it takes too much out me. From now on I will hire one of thoughs carpet cleaning places to come out. I told the kids that if they don't clean up after themselves if they should spill something I will be sending them the bill. Needless to say they didn't like that too much. I say good, maybe they will be more careful now. And if you believe that ... Tomorrow I will tackle the dining room next. I always try to do that spring cleaning in the fall too. With the weather being nice I can open everything up and pretend winter's not around the corner. Next I'll be opening the pool. Right, only in my dreams; Oh well, at least everything will be ready for the Holidays.

there's nothing quite as satisfying [or appalling] as seeing that muddy coffee colored water that comes from steam cleaning carpet. my next favorite thing is to watch the gray coffee water go down the drain after washing my curtains. and of course, for a daily quick thrill, emptying my vacuum cleaner canister. it's hard to believe how much filth is in my house, no matter how much i clean.

my mother used to do very organized spring and fall cleaning. it lasted an entire week and not a thing went untouched. those were the days of almost assembly line cleaning. she would take every single thing out of all of her china cabinets and hand wash and dry all. took everything out of the kitchen cabinets and wiped off all cans and jars and especially spice bottles. i'm not nearly as organized. i kind of do whatever i feel like it at any old time. but, i sure love the feeling whenever i get my cleaning ass in gear, which isn't as often as i would like.

heh! another *my mother* cleaning memory------she used to take the lightbulbs out of all of the lamps and wash them. she also ould empty the salt and pepper shakers onto little plates and wash the shakers. i even remember years and years ago, before we moved to the suburbs and lived in a 2 bedroom bungalow, that she would moved the living room furniture outside, while she scrubbed down the rooms. and, i don't even think she was OCD. although, when she died, we counted 52 pair of black pants and 24 pair of the same style of "slide" heels that she bought from a shoe outlet.

feel like rip van winkle, asleep for almost a week. last day for my meds and i am glad to not be pumping my body full of non fun stuff. hard to tell which affects are the illness or the medications. or which affects are not having a single glass of wine or other libations for a week. heh!

i was watching "Brothers and Sisters" last night, and the story line about Kitty having cancer and questioning chemo, choosing alternative herbs and lifestyle got me thinking. having a very miniscule condition compared to cancer, i know that the heavy duty meds have basically cleared it up, but, boy oh boy, have i felt like shit in the interim and healing. i wonder if i could do months of medications with awful side affects. just another question in my head to drive me crazy.

Hi, maybe 3rd time's the charm. I tried a reply this time instead of a seperate post.

I have to pay more for the ticket for the privledge of being able to go to drivers ed school. My choice on line or in person. I chose on line and it was an additional $30 over the cost of the ticket. If I complete it before my 'court date', then they will submit the completion form to the court and nothing will be reported to the DMV. You are allowed to exercise this option 1 time in 18 months. Guess I will use my cruise control even more..

My MIL (rest her soul) would clean like your mother. I tend to empy out the spice/food cabinet and then I organize in alpha order. Doesn't seem to stay that way very long.

Did a lot of Fall cleaning before the surgery a month ago. I knew that he wouldn't be able to drag a rented steam cleaner for carpets up the steps, so the weekend before, we steamed all the carpets and the furniture. Need to be ready for the holidays since FIL will be here in 5 weeks. When I get through all the health insurance claims and drivers ed, I'll need to get my butt in gear. Having a quiet, just the 2 of us, Thanksgiving. First one in many, many years.

Made the best ever Tri-Tip roast last night with twice baked potatoes. Hubby ate like there's no tomorrow.

Ah ha! i've been racking my brain, trying to think of the name of that west coast roast that you used to post about. a few months ago, i was looking for something different and good and tried to think of it when i was talking to my cute little butcher boy. he didn't know what i was talking about and the only thing i could think of was that it was a "coloured' roast. i haven't been too happy with my cuts of meat lately. and i am sick of the same old, same old i have been making. all of the recipe sights are way too overwhelming for me, and that is why i always liked exchanging recipes and ideas with a few friends on a non cooking internet board. some of my best recipes, which have now become standards in my home, i received from internet friends. your sweet potato casserole being one of them. i tried to start that up in crackerville, by posting a really good and easy corn dip, but it was made fun of because it had baked mayonnaise.

glad you could join the skeleton crew. i find this an easy peasy avenue to just dish and chuck and jive and not have to feel pressure or need to duck from the attacks.

i don't think there is an option like that around here. the whole process seems stupd to me, kind of like writing the same sentence 100 times on the blackboard in Miss Crabtree's class.

Yeah, much of it is redundant to say the very least. However, I am already over 80% through and will finish it tonight/tomorrow. The $30 I spent to 'attend' the drivers ed is saying me over $1500 a year on insurance. Well worth the money spent. There were times I wish that I had had that option back in the days. LOL

This seems like a nice place to visit, away from all the crazy in life. Can I plant my flower here?

hello blue moon! may i call you that since i can barely say hydrengea, let alone spell it. i love the blue ones the best too. i can't believe how if you pick them green and put inside in a vase of water that they will turn blue. when i saw yours, they were so beautiful and perfect that i thought they were fake. i couldn't believe that they don't shed when they dry.

well, this is a nice place, filled with flowers and jewelry and good old southern sweet potatoes charm. it's a nice respite, yes?

speaking of southern charm, i recently read a book that reminds me of our very own sweet potato. "Ida Mae Tutweiler and the Traveling Tea Party" by Ginnie Bivona. it is a small easy reading book that is just plain lovely to read. at the end of the book, the author has her favourite southern recipes from her childhood. you could have written the book SP. it is exactly your style.

the above is me. i posted earlier in the honoring veterans forum in the other place. forgot to change back as i'm not used to posting from work. i'm just very concious and sentimental about our veterans and those currently serving. that place needs something positive from someone about something.

i can't believe how little posting time is spent on simply thanking our veterans, honouring them, even acknowledging this day. all i hear is people bitching that there is no mail, banks and federal buildings are closed. seems that veterans are just a giant inconvenience. most people are more concerned with the muslim jihadist and are having more conversations about a murdering terrorist than talking about just one veteran. it would be nice if just one veteran was remembered by name, or remembered anonymously for his courage and sacrifices. so, today, along with every other day, i remember my grandfather, my father, my father in law and my husband.
