Happy's does have great burgers.
1. I don't get all of the grease and dust covered "Happy" junk and display cases in there. Is this just a place to display junk that no one else wants? I little bit is fine but that junk is nasty and way beyond OK.
2. Happy's really isn't a restaurant. It's a fast food joint. Restaurants have real dishes and flatware, not styrofoam and plasticware. So, it's just Happy's, not Happy's Restaurant.
3. The ground on grundge on the booths is repulsive, so don't look at them. They really do have a pattern on them, they are not really black. Yuck! Yes, the place could use a major cleaning or remodeling.
Happy's does have great burgers. Love those 'OLE burgers! It's not as nasty as the North-Y and Ocena has been in business at the same location since the 50's. You don't like these places? Stay away from them! I haven't died yet. And those Becky's fans, you don't know as much as you think either. Just saying... I love 'em all!

And you still eat there?? Wow! Sounds like you are very brave or something.

Carol the owner of Happy's was in the Woody Harrelson movie called Natural Born Killers! She played the crazy lady running around the kitchen with a butcher knife in her hand. That should tell you a bit of how she is in real life. A Natural Born Killer with her food! Hee Hee!

That is why there are specialty restaurants! You want GOOD mexican food go to a mexican restaurant not to a burger joint. If I went to an Italian retaurant i wouldnt expect them to have great Kung Pao Chix. Why would you ask? BECAUSE it is an Italian restaurant! Try again you lil angry turd.

The "ground on grundge" booths used to be in Denny's. Don't blame it all on Happy's! LOL. No, not brave, I just have guts of steel! Hey, I don't frequent the place but yes, I do eat there every so often.

Owners are semi retired but we happened to catch them open and was so worth it.... Tina's Cafe .... We recently retired here in Cbad and the enchiladas were soooo good , loved the salsa and the hospitality was wonderful, nice clean and will eat there again. They must be doing something right because she told us this was her 26 year opened, nice lady!

Everyone just face it, Carlsbad is going to H*** in a handbasket, there are no decent sit down to eat restaurants in Carlsbad, and what there is it is too expensive and old rancid greasy crap. A lot of these so-called food joints, make more money selling drugs at their drive-up window's Selling drugs to those Carlsbad coaches drug babie ones that follow those white arrows down at the Carlsbad Park. So if you want Mexican food go to Taco Bell at least there you get something to eat. Or go to San Antonio and find some good food there, at least won't fine white spray painted arrows all over the place.

aaaaaa NOPE!!!! the Larez is the cleanest place in town. I dare say spotless. We dont eat there often but we do go about 2 or 3 times a month. Its old looking but very clean. much like cout cafe was old looking and felling but it was a clean place to eat good food. Calloways is old looking but again it is clean and has good food. No Whiner is another clean place to eat. very retro style. I like them too.

I can't comment on Larez as we have only been twice because it took so long even with a buffet both times. It takes us have our lunch hour in driving, then have to wait to get table, then have to wait for food so not enough time to eat. I like Calloways, they seem clean and are getting better at getting food out more quickly. I am looking forward to the makeover. I really like the owner and staff. I hope it works out for them. I have to diagree with Court Cafe. Everytime I went the tea tasted spoiled and there was a buildup on the tables. Kind of sticky. But I did love the Navajo Taco! No Whiner, clean enough, but I don't enjoy the food. Pasta was to greasy for me. I like Mi Casita because the owner and staff, like Calloways, are great! Even when we have to wait for a table, we can still get good food in a clean restaurant, in a very timely manner!

I've eaten breakfast at Happy's and it is great, as far as mexican food, I'd rather eat at home, mom's is best. Most people just need to use common sense when ordering, You don't go to chinese and order mexican food, and vice versa. You don't go to the police station to drink a cold beer? Use common sense.

NM Chicano wrote: You don't go to chinese and order mexican food, and vice versa.. I pretty much agree with that statement, except: we went to China Lantern a couple nights ago to try their Mexican food, and it was very good (IMO), better than their Chinese food. My fav Mexican restaurant is Larez, but CL runs a close second. Thanks for the good word re Happy's. We are known for (1) the burgers (we got Best of Carlsbad for them) and (2) the breakfasts, which, BTW, are served all day long each day we are open :)
