Wow, I just got a job in San Leandro. I was interested in finding a nice community to move to that me, my wife, and three kids could call home. I was trolling on Trulia.com and was impressed by the prices and houses in Antioch. Now reading this I can see why the houses are the cheapest in all of Nor Cal. I currently live in Seoul South Korea and I can walk in the middle of any part of this city at any hour and I am never threatened. Seoul has 18 million people and I'm more afraid of Antioch now.

I guess I have no choice but pay too much for a house somewhere else.

Oh I wouldn't go that far. Unless you have a million plus dollars (even in todays economy) you're not going to live in such a town. Antioch is not that bad as it once got. It's gotten a lot better over the last year. You should move here because more and more homes are being bought up by people actually living in their houses and trying to turn the town around. I wouldn't be surprized if in the next 3-4 years the housing in Antioch will be desirable once again. Concord, Oakley, Pittsburg all have the same problems now. Unless you have a Million dollars and can afford a nice area of Walnut Creek or Alamo you're not going to live in a neighborhood you can feel safe walking around at night. I mean even in walnut creek they been having homicides. So reconsider Antioch and help change the town.

Well I was born and raised in San Jose and I moved away at age 17. I now call Sacramento Home but have not been able to live there for about 4 years. Right now I live in Seoul and my favorite part about it is the absolute lack of what is discussed here. No stare downs, No Theft, No muggings, No one in your face with their 20" rims or their over the top tatoos. Here in Seoul the poorest neighborhoods are just that, Poor not criminal.

Now I have to face coming home and dealing with "Thugs"? Even here there is a cracker hater posting. A hater of any kind isn't to appealing. I really don't care what color you are. Good people and bad people come in all colors. But when the government decides to help those who do not help themselves and you start mixing the aptitudes together based on some screwed up sense of fairness. Well yall are living the outcome. So listen up liberals in Nor Cal. Keep voting the way you vote and get more of the same.

Black, White, Hispanic, Asian. Who cares. If your a punk, thug, or criminal minded then that is your creed. It's who you are and that specific class of people should 100% be discriminated against. Man up Antioch. Crack down and purge your city. Get rid of cracker hater and anyone who thinks like him. No second chances no hand outs. No Section 8's. All you thugs sucking on the Gov tit or saping your neighbors children for the school milk money. MOVE! They move to Antioch because they cant afford anywhere else so to Antioch they come. Duh! Hire more cops? Absolutely! Now bust everyone going 27 in a 25, Or Jay walking, or dressed indecent, Plaster Hookers and Johns faces on the front page. Make drug dealers consume everything they are currently holding (ok Just kidding).But you get the picture. Laws and rules are well meant but without enforcement they are a Mr Whipple product. This is just the beginning there is so much more that can be done to make the Thugs so uncomfortable they just quit and find easier prey.

Pick up the welcome mat and start discriminating. Attract only achievers not takers. Antioch could be the next Monterey.

I used to live in Antioch. I tried to get involved and get my neighbors interested in what the city was doing, like giving away the land needed to expand Bart, and failing to plan ahead for rapid expansion. Even now with money set aside for shovel ready projects, Antioch is not in a position to extract the money to expand BART or widen the freeway.
Back when Antioch was a nice place to live and had a fairly easy commute, people couldn't be bothered to get involved because they were too busy. This is a really good lesson for all of us to learn. Corrupt local politics and residents that couldn't be bothered to do something about it brought about the circumstances we now see in Antioch and unless the residents of Antioch really work together it's only going to get much worse. Even when the economy returns no one will want to live in Antioch if they can't get to work. For the poster talking about Liberals, it's not liberal or conservative that matters, it's a democracy where people care. There is more than one way to skin a cat. There are all kinds of systems that work, but people have to care and work together. A house divided can not stand and the rhetoric of "Liberals" and "Conservatives" is dividing our house (The United States of America). If you want things to change you better get involved. Go to some city counsel meetings. Find out about the real issues. Don't simply call other people names, if you've got ideas about what works put them out there. I personally think that Antioch needs more police, better infrastructure, and incentives for businesses to locate in the city and take advantage of the labor pool that is there. You guys need to start an organization to keep tabs on your local government, organize voters, and get push for projects like ferry service to SF and highway expansion.

Doing something even though it may be wrong applies at times. But not where this is concerned.

Conservatism has one major flaw, It's balanced by liberalism. Keep thinking there is some moderate middle ground and you can keep the results. Take a stand and apply some intestinal fortitude. Conservatism doesn't feel as good as liberalism. Its tougher meaner and has less heart. Liberalism is the product of the unconstrained mind and it is a recipe for ghetto type outcomes. I would rather give myself over to the constrained view and have less warm and fuzzies but be left with lasting enduring quality results. I may not move to Antioch due to the information gleaned on these forums. The appearance is that Antioch has already sold it's soul to the devil and it may now be past the point of no return. The opportunity to be tough may have already past and the only ones feeling those warm and fuzzies may be the burgeoning slum lords. Section 8's should have never been allowed to get anywhere near that town.

If you happen to think liberalism (aka Progressive) and moderation is somehow benign you may not understand the meaning of all this anyway. It never feels good to spank my children. I completely aggree with this sentiment. Dont think about I was happy back when or I'll be happy when. Be happy right here right now. Enjoy the loves and the accomplishments in your life right now.
