Yes it does affect the person next to you. Especially if your weak in the "will power" department, and your trying to lose weight.
Might one deduce from your post that you are, in addition to be a stinking smoker, likely fat, and undisciplined to the extent that you cannot resist stuffing your face with chocolate?

Well, the country is certainly full of obese, apathetic people who take up more than their share of space and resources.

You deduced wrong. I do smoke, but I'm far from being rude with my smoking. Read what I wrote early. Also that's not being very patriotic from TX. Here you go with the name calling. Labeling people fat, which is an insult to those that are trying to fight their weight problem, which some of them could be a medical reason. And on top of that, you call smoker's stinky. Well it is stinky, but so is poo poo, which is how I label you, since that is the only way you know how to come across, is by name calling people you don't & will never see or know....

i would agree that smoking is bad for you and people around you, but i beleive what you do in your home and car is your choice. They should just ban cigs along with alcohol Alcohol is just as bad and in my opinion more dangerous, at least while im smoking and driving i can think straight. In my opinion the city has gone overboard targeting smokers. There are no freedoms anymore.

Look people, if people want to smoke, they will smoke, look at when marijuana was legal and most drugs were legal, they just became more profitable....And what about exhaust fumes? Hah, this is just another fucking attempt for the pussy little asses in this world to complain and whine and bitch and moan about something...Doesn't is seem weird that the healthy idiots (not all health-conscious people mind you, just the frantically paranoid ones)are the ones who get hit by a smoker trying to light his big, fat long cigar? Look, I understand highly populated bars and clubs where people are packed in like sardines, but when they start banning cigarettes, I know many people who'll start growing tobacco right next to their poppy and cannabis stacks. Why make another "Drug"? Let people smoke in they're cars and homes, and smokers will let people have they're annoying spandex shorts and powerwalking crap and we will try to not laugh as much....Fair Deal?(You think my comment sounds a bit off, try saying "I want to stop a grown man or woman from indulging in something that is as harmful as hard liquor....UH-OH! IT'S THE SECOND PROHIBITION)

Oh, by the way, did I mention that the first prohibition didn't work too well either?

Everyone seems to forget that our 'rights' end where they infringe upon another's right to health. If you want to smoke, do so in a contained environment such as your home or car.

Not that there are any decent restaurants in Arlington, but at least diners don't have to tolerate the disgusting smell of and concerns about cigarette smoke!

You aren't very bright my friend. Let me guess, you are a rabid non-smoker whom is as against smoking as people were against computers? Sure they aren't the BEST thing in the world for your health, but we aren't shoving the damned things in your mouth are we? No..But you are shoving your way of life down ours..And because we own up to having a guilty pleasure that we accept is bad for us, you are all over us..Find something worthwhile to bitch about you pathetic professional whiner. You want us to leave you alone when you starve because you've gained an ounce in body fat? Leave our decisions to us and your comments to the toilet which is where we want them, same as you want ours..

No smoker should smoke where they are not allowed. If a non-smoker walks towards a smoker that had gone out of his way to not be rude, then what's the problem here? I don't walk up and light a cig around kids or anyone else. I respect a non-smoker's rights.

That's true, but your chances of being killed by a drunk driver is higher than dying from second hand smoke. And smoking doesn't effect the way you walk, talk, drive, think, and we can make decisions with a clear head. On second thought you may be right, who in their right mind would continue smoking when they could stumble their way back up to the bar and have another drink before picking up the baby from the sitters?

Either your parents didn't teach you to share, are your a selfish person by nature. Are we as smokers complaining because the whole restaurant isn't allowing us to sit where-ever we want and yet you as a nonsmoker can sit and have a drink if you choose to do so, and your allowed to pick a sit in either section and still enjoy your beverage, where as I can only smoke in the smoking section. Since you don't like to share now you want the whole damn place to be nonsmoking. So when you can't afford to go out and eat, because the price has increased so much, to make up for the loss of revenue that us smokers no longer bring into the NO SMOKING business just think about how clean smelling it is now that us smokers aren't smelling up the place!! Like they say, "Be Careful What You Ask For, Because you Just Might get It"

If we pass laws forcing smokers to change their behavior “for their own good,” we need to ask: Where do we stop? Do we pass laws against smoking in private homes? Against frying food indoors (which also releases known carcinogens into the air)? Eating the wrong kinds of food? Eating too much? Weighing too much? Drinking too much (and not just when driving)? Exercising too little? Should we ban other risky behavior, such as skydiving, bungee-jumping, or riding motorcycles? How about drinking more than one cup of coffee each day?

satan's kept his promise but it's been really hard to keep mine. It's even harder when i can't go anywhere at all for entertainment without foggy haze clouds above and through me. My boyfriend smokes, I used to, my friends do too but why impose it on others. at restaurants they have designated smoking areas so non-smokers don't pitch a bitch-fit. It could work the same way. Most bars have outdoor areas, some don't though... we went down to Austin and people are pissed about it, but a few places have those expensive air filters so that people can smoke inside. The way i see it, businesses that were doing well will still do well and if maintaining their smoking customers happy is that important, they can invest in one of those crazy air filters. word will get out that you can smoke indoors (legally) and you'll get more customers. smoke all you want, step outside... you have to do it at work... and it's not all that unpleasant. i haven't smoked for almost 1.5 years but cave quite a bit in smoky settings. help me out here... and if i ever get knocked up, i still wanna be able to rock out at concerts and dance it up at clubs, maybe go with my friends and have cranberry juice while they drink... This could be a really good thing. Austinites weren't happy about it, but they still go out and do their thing and smoke in between doing their things. and austin has definitely stayed "weird"...

Then if you're "human" you should have the good sense NOT to smoke. It's an addictive habit that not only harms the smoker but others as well, not to mention that it STINKS (as do smokers) and is overall disgusting.

well i want to enjoy myself at a concert as well. if you dont like it then dont go. it should be up to the business to decide. if they want a smoking section then you can get over it and go somewhere else.

Smokers have no more rights than anyone else and there has NEVER, NEVER been any "right" smoke, for cripe's sakes!

Why don't you smokers start complaining to the CRIMINALS who got sold a drug which is ADDICTIVE, DEFECTIVE and LETHAL, when USED AS INTENDED! That would be the TOBACCO PUSHERS!

The rest of us will have the smoke-free air to which we are LEGALLY ENTITLED!

Cigarette: fire on one end and a FOOL on the other. Best thing to do would be to BAN THE ILLEGAL TOBACCO DRUG, NOW!

BAN ALL SMOKING EVERYWHERE, INDOORS AND OUT, NOW!
