Far South Arlington is bad now. Housing has ruined this nice area. East and North Arlington are the bad areas. I really think West Arlington is the best area. You never hear about bad things on that side. Gangs has tooken over East, North and far South Arlington. Avoid those areas. Especially North Collins and Washington Street. Thats a very very very bad area. Drugs and Guns are infested in those streets. It had High Crime Rate signs in that area last year. Also, avoid anything that schools your children to Sam Houston(Eastside)

Based on your response, it sounds like you know EXACTLY what the problem is.

Thanks for confirming it!

You're exactly right Bart, there is nothing wrong with that Wal-Mart. It's some of the people that go there. Notice I said "some of the people". Label me a racist coward, I don't care, but I know trash when I see it, and I have the right to not be around it. Let me put it to you another way...You can put lipstick on a pig to make it pretty, but at the end of the day, it's still a pig. You can find me at the Kroger @ Matlock, and Debbie Ln. I feel safer there.

My friend is a police officer in SE Arlington at the TCC campus. Oddly enough there are gangs even at the college. I fear for my life even though I live around 200k houses, my daughter is in 7th grade and is telling me many of the young men are already getting in gangs. The ONLY part of Arlington that is 100% nice is by Martin HS. Do yourself a favor and be careful where you move, it is very deceiving. The adults have nice jobs, nice cars, but let their teens run the streets and join gangs and don't seem to notice. My neighbors sons are in the Bloods, if he took the time to view their Myspace.com accounts he would know this, also wondering how he has not noticed his 3 sons have only worn red clothes for years straight, does he think they really like red that much? They smoke marijuana in the front yard and throw signs, yet the yard is well manicured and the house is nice.

If you want to live in that area, I definitely suggest Mansfield. It is just south of Arlington and has a great, growing school district. We loved living there. It has great stores, a Hometown Festival in September and a big police/fire sponsored Halloween festival. The people there are great and able to maintain a small town atmosphere. There are lots of houses (I have one for sale there in fact). We recently transferred to the San Antonio area and I have miss Mansfield a lot. I do not miss Arlington though...there is a lot of traffic and a lot of people. I do miss the Parks Mall though. Arlington has a lot of great things going for it but I definitely prefer the suburbs around it. Oh, and Mansfield has easy access to downtown Ft. Worth which is a must see and has great career opportunities.

Good lord! Sure am glad all you negative folks aren't my neighbors in ARLINGTON. Love it here, the schools are good, lots of jobs, plenty of parks and shopping. Hate to tell you guys its not any different than anywhere else in 2007, and certainly better than most areas of DFW. I suppose you'd rather live in congested, crime ridden, politically managed Dallas or better yet, Fort Worth. Look around stupid!

If we were neighbors, I would be telling you that you made a great decision to move in my neighborhood, and to stay away from S, and SE Arlington. I'm sorry, but you get what you pay for. If you live in a gated community, which I do, your area is probably pretty nice, and you don't have to worry about strange people driving fast down your street, your kids can play freely, there is no loud booming stereos late at night, and the same people that live in my neighborhood have kids that go to school w/ my kids, and that's the EXACT same people I want my family, and myself to be associated with. There is nothing wrong with renting, but if you have a neighborhood that has alot of rental properties, watchout. You get all sorts.

While the posts are not unanimous, my initial response has plenty of support. I would urge you to follow the local newspapers; there have been several rather high-profile gang shootings of late. The posters who say they live in a nice neighborhood may well be correct (although most of them appear to be referring to Mansfield). The area near Martin HS is the best, and I agree with the posters who say that. But I speak from experience, having lived in Arlington for 30 years; it has gone to hell. The poster who calls someone a "racist coward" sums it up pretty well -- it seems you are wanting a good place to raise a family, not somewhere in which a simple trip to the store requires an analysis of who is a coward and who is brave. I would urge you to consider Northeast Tarrant County, Denton County, or Collin County. I have no vested interest in keeping people out of Arlington -- I am not a member of the Chamber of Commerce for any city or anything -- I am just saying that I am glad I left Arlington and I would not move back for anything. If you are dead set on moving to Arlington (no pun intended), I would definitely focus on the area near Martin HS.

I'm sorry, I just don't get it. We live in South Arlington, not a gated community and quite frankly glad we moved from Martin's back door where the teenagers do drive like crazy and my children could not play outside without me being right there. I am proud to say I live in Arlington, my children are happy and healthy, playing in the neighborhood street (safely) and I am fortunate enough to have great neighbors who all look out for each other. We have lived here for six years, have seen neighbors come and go but have never, I repeat NEVER, had an unpleasant incident because of where we live. Several quotes come to mind........."Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder" and "if you look for trouble, you'll find it". Maybe we are naive, maybe just lucky. Maybe you get what you ASK for, not necessarily what you pay for. We don't live in an afluent area but you do get out of your "neighbors" what you are willing to put forth.

I think the original poster is looking for a nice, safe, surbabn area in which to raise a family. That would have been Arlington in the 70s and 80s, when I grew up there. It is not anymore. The above poster appears to have stumbled onto a good street in south Arlington, which is lucky, and I do not mean in anyway to disparage her home or her street. But coming in from out of town and hoping to find a good street among the chaos would be quite a gamble; the odds are so much better in other suburbs -- McKinney, Allen, Frisco, Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake, and Rockwall come immeidately to mind (none are perfect, but the odds of finding a safe place with a good school are better in these areas). I do not know as much about Mansfield as the other posters do, but it is apparently very good too. I have not studied the causes, but I doubt that anyone who lived in south Arlington in the 70s and 80s would seriously argue that it has not deteriorated to the point of dangerousness. Go to www.familywatchdog.us and do a sex offender search of Arlington. It is unbelievable. Read yesterday's paper, about the Lamar-affiliated gang shooting it out with the Sam Houston-affiliated gang, and how gangs patrol the parking lots at football games. Not exactly a Norman Rockwell situation. And these are not things a neighborly pan of cookies will solve; you have to get really lucky and end up on a good street, as the above poster has apparently done, and not stray from that street. One of these new bulletproof backpacks wouldn't hurt either. Someone from out of town should not be led to believe that Arlington is generally a nice place to move to -- you would have to know the area well, and get lucky, to find a nice place there.

My family is relocating from NY to Dallas/Ft. Worth. We were curious about Southwest Arlington regarding crime. Does anybody know anything about the Lindberg/Tate Springs area by Lake Arlington? The zip code we're considering is 76106. Thanks for the input.

Go WEST Arlington, Pantego, Dalworthington Gardens (DWG) 76013. East Arlington is crime/gang central. South (Except FAR south is BAD...Mmm K?)
We are a large city with issues but Arlington is still a great place to raise da kids....

that would be 76016, great area. As my above comments indicate I have never regretted moving here from Grapevine, Bedford, Hurst, and Euless by the way. My children started their education at Tate Springs school and are in the MHS network. We have four excellent elementary schools within a few miles and two very good Junior Highs as well. A very good place to raise a family (and resonable). If you have lots of money move to Flower Mound, Colleyville, Grapevine but you might compare the drug/alcohol usage related crimes.

I am amused and shocked after reading the comments about Arlington. You really should spellcheck or possibly look at a map before hitting 'enter'. WalMart is NOT at Matlock and Sublett. When talking about someone doing something its 'they're' not their. As for the Sanford part of town....it's RUN down, not ranned down. Sam Houston is a great school. My grandson had a choice of schools... He CHOSE Sam Houston. There are bad kids everywhere because there are BAD PARENTS everywhere !!!

Every city has its flaws. You get homocides even at the most quiet town. Mansfield doesn't really teach you anything and I've met a lot of Mansfield people who are snobby and don't cope well with diversity. If you actually drive around throughout Arlington, it does have a few roads and places that needs to be fixed but the rest of the areas are clean and nice. Those unattractive roads will be fixed after the Stadium situation is cleared. You can choose entertainments within Arlington, such as Six Flags Theme Park, Hurricane Harbor, Ball Park, Football Stadium(soon), Ice Skating, Bowling Alleys, lots of local Movie Theaters, shoot pool, Parks Mall or drive down Cooper St to choose one of the many MANY restaurants they have. If you're looking for a more quiet time, then you can visit their Museums or have fun feeding the ducks at one of their parks. With 300,000+ on housing, you will be at ease with your neighbors.

Thank You for being neighborly. Yes, Arlington is a fine city to raise your children. Of course with 300,000 you can do well in Arlington. Actually about half that will work, and still not a gated community. Just north of I20 and just south of 20 in South Arlington is where I'd be. I also hear north Mansfield and Kennedale are nice for the "smaller community wannabes".
