Arlington TX

Can anyone tell me about the City of Arlington and how a family would do there? I'm thinking about 300,000+ in terms of housing and I am conservative. I currently live in Miami and see that I will need to get out once my children get older. Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks

Do not under any circumstances move your family to Arlington. It is a crime-riddled place that is totally outclassed by almost every other suburb in the D-FW area. I lived there for many years - went to school there from elementary school all the way through undergraduate school, and I watched the city steadily decline into the abyss. It has attractions to visit, such as an amusement park, the Texas Rangers, and soon the Dallas Couwboys, but my recommendation is to visit those things when you like, and leave. If you are considering moving to our area, you would be much better served to consider Allen, Frisco, and other suburbs to north of Dallas -- or areas in Northwest Tarrant County, northwest of Fort Worth. Those are the areas in which population growth has been centered recently, and where the better schools tend to be. Fort Worth is also a good city with some very good areas. But avoid Arlington. (And no, I am not a disgrunteld former city employee or anything -- and I still live in the area, as I have for my entire life - - but I do not, and would not, live in Alrington.)

Don't listen to the man above. Arlington is a great city to live in, just choose where you live. You can go to south Arlington and get a brand new home. Southern Arlington is zones mostly to Mansfield (Mansfield Timberview HS and Mansfield HS). Also, the areas around Martin High School is a good place to live. There are a few new neighborhoods and enclaves going up in this area. Arlington is a big city (land wise and population wise). You just have to be careful where you live. Almost like living in Fort Worth. You wouldn't choose an inner city crime ridden area would you? Rather, you would try southwest Fort Worth which is full of new communities. You'll love it in Arlington. We have the Texas Rangers, soon the Dallas Cowboys, Wet 'n Wild, and Six Flags Over Texas. So many people around the Metroplex come here for fun (mainly Six Flags and Wet 'n Wild). Soon they will see the historic Cowboys here. I say you come down, visit the areas south of I-20 and around Lake Arlington, and look for yourself.

I guess seeing is believing, so I will visit on vacation. I am also interested in buying rental properties (6+ family apartments) Any thoughts are approeciated.

I agree don't listen to the first guy. I live in the South Arlington/Mansfield area and my daughters went/go to Mansfield schools. My oldest graduated from Summit and the youngest is in elementary. I love the school district, the area, etc. I do think you could find what you are looking for ie;home, busi. to buy etc. We live in a rather new neighborhood (only 3 yrs old) and our house is aprox. 4200sq ft. we paid less than 2oo grand for it so you should do great at what you are looking to buy... Don't move to Arlington,especially if you like to take public transportation because it simply does not exist.The jobs are low paying and I know Ijust left there 2 weeks ago after having suffered there for 8 months.

Arlington is a great place to live. You have a love of entertainment for the youth,great school districts,protection from police officers who actually protect and serve.This will be a great opportunity for your children and their children as they decide to fulfill their dreams. Their are not any worries about Arlington if you and your children are discipline with who and who not to hang out with. Arlington is a descent place to live, but in these upcoming years Arlington is a future ghetto. The young people in Arlington is out of control. I Live in South Arlington by Bowie High School and I'm starting to hear gunshots and gang fights and stuff like that. I was just at walgreens getting me some things for the house and I witness a gang fight then shooting like we was in the ghetto. Arlington population and crime rate is increasing and I am thinking of moving deep into Mansfield because Arlington is the next Fort Worth or Dallas in the upcoming years

Arlington is a crime ridden ghetto unless you live in the very rich neighborhoods where heroin is rampant in the high schools. There is no public transportation because the Mayor is against it. He thinks having a bus would entice homeless people to live here. And then he buses in 1000 homeless/carless Katrina victims and tells them all 'good luck'. The city has been run into the ground by the moron Cluck. His pockets are lined nicely with Jerry Jones money though, so HE'S happy. Don't move here. It's a pit.

Anything east Arlington is bad. Say what you want, but it is. Amazing that around Matlock, and Sublett it's pretty bad, and then you go 3 miles east across Cooper, and there's really no problems to speak of. I went in to the Bruam's at Matlock and Green Oaks this past year on my way home, and these kids anywhere from 15-17 years old, came in cussing, yelling, and just did not care who was there. There were families all around, and just to see these idiots acting the way they were, was overwhelming. I was waiting for a store manager, or someone to say something, but nothing ever happened. I wanted to say something, but as I started thinking, if these kids don't care about anything, would they pull out a gun, and shoot me if I put them in their place? It's rediculous that I was scared becuase of them, but in the area I was talking about, there is ALOT of that going on. The Wal-Mart on Matlock and Sublett is even worse. My advice is to move West of Cooper, or in deep south Mansfield, or by Martin High School. We are moving there this spring. Stupidity breeds Stupidity. Their not dumb, they just don't know any better.........I hope.

Yeah I agree Sublett and Matlock is pretty bad now, The gang members from the Other parts of Arlington is always over there looking for the Gang that reside in that area and that lead to Shootings and Brawls, North Arlington has some good places to live, but avoid the Washington and Collins area is Drug and Gang infested. Avoid the Sanford Area where the Stadium is being built. Its old and ranned down. The Creekside Area of green oaks is a nice looking neighborhood but a lot of shootings and fights are going on back there now. Avoid East Arlington(East Park Row, Arkansas, Arbrook). If you have Children thats teenagers you should think of the west arlington area(Martin high school) be the lake and Park Springs. those areas are very nice. Good schools are martin, Mansfield ISD except for Timberview, those are mostly arlington kids that stay in the Matlock Sublett area. I think Arlington is a descent city but its has a its bad ways thats not getting any better. if you from the ghetto Arlington is nothing its a surburb gone wild. If you from the surburbs this not your typical surburb. I would say dont move to arlington move to Mansfield or the HEB area or Pantego(West Arlington Area)

Okay, I'm getting mixed reviews from reading these posts! What parts of Arlington are actaully nice. I am looking for a nice suburban community, maybe even a culdusac. Somewhere it is safe to raise a family. I live in Massachusetts right now were taxes are through the roof! We have to pay for things such as garbage fees equaling 3 dollars per bag! Someone please give me some honest input, not your disgruntled opinions from your bad experiences. Thanks for your help.

I am interested in a house in the southeastern part of Arlington. The schools are listed as Bebensee, Ousley, and Seguin. The house is located in a cul-de-sac. Just looking to find out some information about the area. Is this a decent place to live?

Far South Arlington is really the better side compared to the Northside and Eastside. I really think the neighborhoods over there is nice and quiet, but lately the crime has been increasing on that side. Burglaries and Shootings have been occuring in that area a lot lately. I really think the area is nice, but the youngsters are pretty bad on that side. I think Mansfield will be a better fit then South Arlington. Look for houses in West Arlington by the Lake. That area is awesome.(crime free). Plus, Martin High School is the best High School in Arlington

I live in a nice neighborhood with a sign down the road warnining visitors that it is a high crime area. I am afraid to walk a mile from my house because of the infestation of drug and hookers in North Arlington. Arlington is more interested in their football stadium, that the citizens are buying for Jones, than they are in helping their police dept. Just look at the 1/2% tax hike to buy the stadium as contrasted to the 1/8% suggested rate increase to help the police. Arlington will become a slum if the mayor and council do not get their priorities right.

Move to the 76017 area of Arlington Near Martin High School, this is where I grew up, and it's still nice.

whatever u do for my advise do noy move to south east arlingn any where near hutcheson jh,carter jh,workman jh and sam houston high school those schools have lots of gang violence,drugs and fights when i lived off of pioneer pky and sherry street rite off 360 it was real bad loud music and gun shots every day all the things other people are telling you abou matlock over there by bowie thats a lie if u would rather hear gun shots every day move to south east arlington and if you have kids do not let them attend these elementary school thorton,johns,atherton,knox,mo rton,blanton,or amos jh schools not to attend hutcheson,carter,and workman hs not to attend sam houston and maybe bowie.

I live in the above area and have to drive my kids to other schools. My house has declined in value to where I am lucky to break even... the illegals are swarming the area, go shopping at fiesta mart on pioneer, or visit the Bank of America on Pioneer, you'd think you were at Ellis Island. It won't surprise me if they start giving out free vacines and TB shots if you open an account. I think within the decade the white population of Arlington will be around 25 percent....it's getting bad.

Go to the Wal-Mart @ Matlock and Sublett any day or time, and you'll see. It's rediculous. I had to stop there on Sat night becuase the CVS didn't have the right size of Diapers. IT was me and my 7 year old, and I was looking over my shoulder the whole time.
