As a young adult resident who lives in Arlington, all I have say is that someone needs to do something before fire get fought with fire. I pay all of my taxes and have yet seen police reenforcement. My hummer has been tagged on (spray paint) in my driveway and i woke up with screwdriver in windshield of my work truck. I don't understand Arlington, in my opinion the police are more interested in pulling over people for speeding 5 miles over rather that addressing real problems in this city. Maybe its the parents or maybe its the police, either way my CHL should get the results I need!!!

You can't rely on the corrupt Arlington Police Department to do anything about these gangs. They are all too busy guarding the Glory Park perimeter, you know the playground of Jerry Jones, Tom Hicks and the other multi-millionaires that actually own the Arlington government. It is not a matter of resources that is the major problem, it is how they are allocated. The Chief of Police, Mayor, and City Council all make up conflicting stories and try to shove it down the brain-dead residents throats. When running for reelection they all pounded their chests and boasted that the crime rate is dwn. Now that they want to pass a crime tax, which has more pork attached to it than any congressional bill they cry out that the crime rate is up. They want it both ways so they can please their true masters, Jerry Jones, Tom Hicks, etc.

give me my parking pass, luxury box, and free flowing alcohol. When they started buying up all the neighborhoods surrounding the new stadium, they should've extended it south to Collins, and North to I-30. Much like the AT&T Arena in San Antonio, it's a nice place, but the land it was built on was cheap, and surrounded by bad neighborhoods.......but noone talks about that.

Im a single mom of 2. My oldest son is 14 an as I have come to realize a gang member. It doesnt matter how much money you have or where you live.. Gangs are everywhere. Unfortunately, I wasnt an my son got wrapped up in this mess. Its parents and the community that mold how a child is going to turn out. I have to work to much to take care of my kids or I just thought it was easier to "let it slide" when he got into trouble. Now hes 14 year old gang banger.. An you know what.. I as a parent only have myself to blame. And I as a parent am the only one that can get my son back how he should be. So this BS about its where they live or where they go to school.. BULLSH*T. Its how the parents pay attention and how they raise their kids.. ask me I can tell you first hand. Parents and neighbors that say "glad thats not my kid" well guess what, it might be one day if you dont stop it..

Okay everyone, I'm from Chicago, and these little "gangs" here wouldn't last 5 minutes in Chicago. They think they are soooo bad but if they got dropped off somewhere like the wrong side of Chicago, 5 minutes, they would be dead. Im so tired of these little kids acting like gangs are okay and that they are no big deal. Trust me, the gang violence in "Agg Town" is not that serious.

Brenda, That is very true. BUT, The fact that they are kids makes them more dangerous since most of them feel they have something to prove an think the more bad things they do, the more "down" they are. In my opinion that makes them more dangerous. They are trying to get street cred. My father and my brothers were all Latin Kings and when i say were.. I mean were, they are all dead now. so I know what you're talking about. I swore my kids would never be in the gangs, but We live in a very nice house in the so called "good" part of Arlington. But it still happens. Wanna-be's are more dangerous here. There is no loyalty in wanna-be's. Im not defending gangs of any type or in any way, but the Arlington police and the city itself are corrupt and care more about giving me a ticket for my lawn being 1/2 inch too high then they care about the kids running around at 2am that I see and hear on the weekends. Hell I wont even drive down Arkansas and collins area.. I want to live.. People need to wake up.. I annoy the hell out of the police.. everytime I see or hear anything Im calling them.. an yes, even on my son and his friends when I think they are up to no good. The community will have to step up since the police are not willing to

The community will have to step up since the police are not willing to I'm sorry to hear about your father, and brother, but I have to ask. Did you, and your son around gang members growing up? If you only know one thing all your life, it's how you will end up. Despite what you may think, it does matter where you live.....to a point. WHy is there more crime in south Dallas, than in Highland park? Different people with different values is why. Noone will EVER stop crime, or live in a perfect place, but you can choose areas to live in where the possibilites are much less, and you, and your children are subjected to people with better values, and ideas. I am certianly not telling you how to raise your children, but Do you tell your kids how rediculous they look or act, and by acting, and looking a certian way, you will not be treated with respect. WHat are their future plans? Do you tell them that if they keep on the same track, they can forget about what dreams they have? I certainly hope you are not enabling them by giving them money, letting them stay out late, etc.. If nothing changes in your household, everything will stay the same. Your kids, as well as you need to make changes. It's YOUR house, take control of it. I have 2 kids, and would have NO problem cutting them off, or kicking them out. Don't be a prisoner in your own home! Don't wait, and hope for things to get better. Hope is not a strategy, make changes today!! Good luck.

To answer you George, Yes, I did but my son did not..ever, untill we moved to Arlington and I started working more and letting him slide an be on his own to much.. And yes I tell my son on a daily babsis he looks like a thug.. I dont buy him the clothes, he wears his friends clothes. He no longer gets money from me or my husband. But it took a while for him to get like this and it will take me a while to get him out of it. We are moving soon, out of Arlington. His school is rough, even for a jr high it has a high crime and high gang problem rate. And yes it is up to me as a parent to have and make a better life for my kids but sometimes they still find their way down the wrong path, as my son has. I have to take blame for my lack of awareness. But I have never let him see the type of surroundings that I was raised in. And FYI, in Texas if you kick ur kids out, CPS told me they would charge me with abandonment and neglect if I did that, no matter what he does. So again, it falls on the family. The state laws are not to protect everyone.

Dear Mom of a gangster, I will pray for you ... you sound like your heart is in such pain. I probably know which junior high in Arlington that your son attends - my husband is a teacher at one in central Arlington. He loves his job and he loves his kids, but he says most of the parents he contacts about issues do not care what their kids are up to - it sounds like you care. For you, there should be help, but I don't know where it is. What about Big Brothers? Maybe moving to a small town sould help, if you can. I know there are bad influences in Arlington. I agree with some of the posters that it doesn't seem like the City of Arlington really cares about much more than blowing smoke up Tom Hicks/Jerry Jones butts ... The city asked us to increase our taxes at the same time they fabricated crime numbers and for what - a bunch of fluff - not real crime fighting ... I was told at a recent townhall meeting that we don't have an illegal immigration problem when recently 9 illegal gang members were arrested in Arlington - the assistant police chief didn't even know ICE made those arrests and definitely did not want to discuss it. I bet those 9 Latin Kings (or whatever they were)- I bet they were recruiting kids. The assistant police chief also said that we do not need a curfew in Arlington because they do not identify with their "numbers" that young kids are commiting crimes. Sometimes, they should step back from their "numbers" and think logically ... so much neighborhood property is destroyed at night - lawn ornaments, holiday decorations, mail boxes, etc) destroyed in the evening ... It would be nearly impossible for the police to catch the kids so of course they don't have the numbers - the neighbors know though ... All citizens should call 911 everytime something in their yard is destroyed. Then, if the highly paid police "number" management added up all those "numbers" and attributed them to teenagers, they would see that we need a curfew ... I am frustrated with Arlington these days ... but again, I will pray for you - Mom of a gangster.

When we report suspicious activity, police doesn't respond. They drive around on main thoroughfares but I don't see them stop anyone. Have you been out on the streets say 1 - 3 a.m. There are cars cruising into your neighborhoods with young adults, no license plates, nothing. But you don't see them getting stopped by police. Why? Why are private citizens forced to monitor their neighborhoods after putting in a day's work. Wake up, City Council. It is time to make Public Safety is #1. Right now the City Counsil is not living in reality!!!

i think that it would be a better place to live with no kind of guns, that all of these wanna-bes kids are the ones they should send to iraq to fight the war if they want to kill and have guns, knives, bats, ect... they should be the ones to fight the war for us. just so that we can see how bad they really are they should be shipped to the real war zone and watch them come back crying to their momas then they wouldnt be so bad, cause over there in the war zone every is ready for these wuses, whey do you think they think their bad cause no 0ne sees them comming thats why, so send them to the war zone where every one sees them comming, and then we would have a better place to live and our other kids will be safe to walk the streets and live a normal live, send the gang members and wanna-bes to fight the war for us if their soooo bad!!!!!!
