What is the big deal with everybody talking like arlington is L.A.? I've been all up and through arlington (at night) and i've yet to see any gang violence or police cars flying down the street trying to catch whoever/whatever. If anything, it's not the kids growing up in arlington-- Its the people moving from other cities to arlington (Dallas-Fort Worth) and they bring the "hood" or "gangs" with them. I thought arlington has always been a suburb? These kids you all call gang members are the kids that have doctors and lawyers and police officers for parents and the parents have not a clue what the kids do outside of home. There is no way that arlington BREEDS gangsters with a city that is such upscale suburbia. These guys have been watching too much TV obviously..

The gangs call themselves GANGS and you don't see the Police flying down the street because they do not want to fill out the paperwork when they catch them.

I dont think they are actually in a gang but more like a clique of guys that go around looking for fights. Gangs make money and fight/kill over drug territory. Last time I checked the homicide rate in Arlington was at 4 on the year. Dallas and Fort Worth combined is at 27 this year. So whats the fuss about? Arlington residents are scared of getting their car broken into or house tagged with graffiti but outside of Arlington you have guys kicking down the house door and robbing you at gunpoint! Dont get me confused with trying to glorify the crime outside of Arlington but they havent seen any real gang activity just yet. Just a bunch of knuckleheads running around trying to fit in.

Arlington has been infested with Gangs and it doesnt look like its getting any better. I stay in South Arlington of Green Oaks and Matlock and I witness a drive by shooting in the broad day light. I moved from North Arlington near the Washington Area because thats what always happen over there now these gangs are deep in South Arlington increasing the crime rate. Does any one else see this Gang Violence in Arlington headed down the wrong road???
The question here is what is the cause and effect.

Arlington is a huge septic tank. They like all the gangs, poor, subsidized and entitled people since they get credits and funding from the government.
It appears the city values being Political Correct. The police are limited by the city government on what they can do and do!

I actually work in the North area you are talking about in Arlington... and it does seem that it is getting worse. The sad part is, the police can't do anything about these types of problems UNTIL the gangs actually do something to someone and/or something...and most of the time they don't get caught. I wonder how many people witness things and don't actually say anything for fear they will be hurt as well. It is a sad sad world we live in.....and all of us are responsible for allowing it...*sighs*

IN SCHOOL WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HOW SILLY SOME OF YOU SOUND ON YOUR COMMENTS.
IT'S NOT ABOUT COLOR OR RACE'S, GANGS COME FROM PEOPLE WANTING TO BE ACCEPTED, AND HOW CAN WE BE ACCEPTED WHEN ALL OF YOU ARE DOWNING US AND TELLING US THAT WE ARE NOTHING AND NEVER WILL BE.
OKAY SO JUST THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU WROTE HERE FOR A MIN. AND SEE WHY WE REALLY HAVE VIOLENTS

At your school while "talking about how silly we sound" instead of listening to your educators, talk about the Sunday Ft. Worth Star Telegram. They have good article on gangs. Maybe your friends can laugh at it.

This is how racism starts. I'm an African American student who was raised in the Arlington area. I never joined any gangs. I graduated top of my class and now attend an Ivy League school. If parents would just pay attention to what their children are doing and put their foot down then there would be all these problems.
Arlington is not the "hood" or the "ghetto"....it's suburbia gone wrong and we need to fix things before it gets worse. Who are we to let a bunch of teenagers rule our lives and our city. We need to put our foot down, get strict with these kids and take back our city. These are not just the teenages in the next neighboorhood. These are the kids that live next door to you. These are your very own children. Before jumping around and pointing fingers, make sure that you make sure first that your own children aren't the ones contributing to this mess in the first place.
I don't excatly live in Texas anymore but I do follow the news of what is going on in my hometown. It saddens me that when I go home to visit, I feel safer on the streets of Boston. Arlington needs to band together, stop just complaining about things and actually stand up and take action. As Walt Disney said, "The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing." Stop putting these kids down and let them know that if they really focus, there can be a great future in front of them. It is a aim that is very reachable. Other kids from Arlington have made it big and they can too.
You are an African American? When did you arrive in the United States? An American of African decent should be the term. We are all Americans first!

You make a good point about the parents role it is important, maybe the most important. I remember what Arlington was like in the 1980s, it was a different time. The police are limited in what they can do and it will take the citizens to create positive change. I have seen in the past if you take a kid (most kids) and spend time and expose them to positive activities they see for themselves that there is a better way!

Remember they are "OF"..... Our Future!
