Part of the reason's GM is dying is they stopped making comfortable cars back in 1984. I have been a GM customer since 1949.For over 35 years-all GM cars were deluxe, had thick luzurious backs and seats and were comfortable. The American Middle Class has been brought up on this type of vehicle.
Also, in 1979, owned Omega Brougham with bucket seats that was comfortable. In the 1970's, & 1980's my car was a Delta 88 Royale Oldlsmobile. I was a salesman who drove this kind of car for 20 years.
I had a 1985 and was trading for a 1988. When I got in the 1988-you could feel the difference-hard backs and seats-nothing like the old car. I was aggravated and walked out.I finally settled on a Honda. Every year I went in to see if anything had changed-nothng ever did. This disease spread to Buick, etc. Back a few years ago, I sat in Buidk Roadmaster- just as lousy as the rest!
In 1993 we bought a 1992 Sedan Deville Cadillac program car. Drove nice, had bench seat and was most comfortable. Five years ago, we bought 3 used 1993 Sedan Devilles(same upholstery as 1992)
Every single car that GM makes today is configured seating that has no give-and not comfortable. They do not make bench seats. I have been calling and writing GM to complain for over 20 years.
GM has to change their UPHOLSTERY SOURCE. If they don't, they will fail ,with or without a bailout.
There are enough automakers who have always made cars with hard backs and seats.
Let GM stop chasing the Japaneeze-and get back to the image they had that sold the American Middle Classt in the years before 1985!!
