If your kid isn't old enough to be responsible with their cell phone then maybe they shouldn't have one.

"And a felony of the second degree - that's very serious. Just one down from murder."

Yes, because everyone knows that sending a naked picture of yourself is nearly as bad as killing someone. Give me an f'ing break.. worry about the actual criminals, the murders, rapists, drug dealers, etc, and not what people are doing on their cell phones. If they are so concerned, then outlaw anyone under 18 having a cell.

In my case, sending a naked picture of myself should be a felony. Makes me shudder just to think about it.

The thing is that sexting could lead to a lot of those things you listed below.

Try doing some research on this subject and perhaps you will understand.

These are kids and they shouldn't be doing this but to say them sending a naked picture of themselves is just one step away from killing someone is a pretty extreme statement

Look, let's see how this works. A person is NOT considered an adult until they are 18. BUT, if they send a nude picture of themselves while they are 16 they can be tried as an adult for a class 2 felony?

Sooooo, if their pictures are that of a nude child how can they be tried as an adult? At what age does this law trigger? If the human involved was only 13 would it be a felony? What about 12? Let's just work this out to be logical. If a person under 18 sends self taken nude photos then give them community service and expunge their record when they become 18.

I'm NOT condoning explotation of children here. If they are NOT an adult then they can't be tried as an adult for sending underage pictures. If they ARE an adult then the nude pictures we of an adult and there is no crime....

Am I missing the logic here????

that is right they are treating them like they robbed or beat somebody. these are kids who sent a picture,we all know its not right but treat them like kids not like criminals then you have people like no brainer who want to throw them in prison

I have dealt with a similar situation and saw the effects. My son was called at home by the AD when he was in high school and questioned if he had received a text that a female student had sent of herself nude to her boyfriend. I don't know if my son received and erased the text but he had seen it and so had the whole high school. No criminal charges were filed but the student due to embarrassment not only to her self but to her family, whom were prominent citizens of the community, was whisked away and sent off to a different school. So it is never a positive outcome rather it be prosecution or not.

To be honest, I really think that they need to revise some laws. I mean come on. Trying a child as an adult over photos. I understand if the child has committed murder (not in self defense) is tried as the adult. Then to label them as a sex offender? Seriously? Where is the justification in that? Its ok to make sex tapes of yourself having sex but its not ok to send a nude to someone. What the hell is wrong with America?

Oh wait here is a solution, if your child has a camera phone cut off the service to the camera or allow them to take photos just not send them. If a child wants to do something they are going to no matter what we do as parents
