A Madison man found to have an AK-47 rifle under his bed while police were investigating a domestic disturbance at his residence has been sentenced to almost four years in prison, federal authorities announced.

Russell N. Donovan III, 25, got 46 months in prison without parole at his sentencing hearing Tuesday before U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb in federal court in Madison.

Donovan was arrested on Oct. 7 and pleaded guilty on Feb. 6 to a charge of unlawfully possessing a firearm after previously being convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.

Because of his previous conviction on the domestic violence charge, he was prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms. Mr. Donovan is a former resident of Adams County.

I was always under the impression that ya needed to be a felon, according to this yu dont?

WI is so very backwards.

Domestic Violence is a serious crime, I agree with the on not possessing firearms after a conviction, abuser so often escalade to killing the victim. Why would you say WI is backwards it is a federal law not a state law.

Federal law states that you can possess a firearm if you are convicted of a FELONY.

BUT he was only convicted of a misdemeanor!

Im pretty positive Russells mom is kramers sister. Could be and inlaw but Im almost positive its his nephrew. I used get babysat by mariam schanke and grew up over there on czech ave. I knew tom, because you'd always see him walking down czech. He was actually pretty cool guy when I was a kid. Im from the Hiller family.

Russell donovan is Cheri Warp Donovan Schweitzer's son. Cheris dad Sam and Tommys Mom Irma were brother and sister
