Kind of ironic that Mexicans who objected so much over the Taco Bell dog would use the same kind of dog to depict Indians.

The two incidents are unrelated. The Taco Bell dog was a humorous advertisement in which no one was singled out other than a 'chihuahua' may have symbolized a snide reference to mexicans. I'm not so insecured as to feel threatened by those comercials. However, given the awful treatment that native 'americans'(INdians) from all americas by Europeans leaves a sour taste in their (Tauramaras)mouth. They are a shy, peaceful tribe who mind their own business. The are incredibly poor as a result of many things beginning with the Mexican government. I have personally witnessed middle class (yes, there is a middle class) mexicans verbally insult them without provacation. And now the same government is trying to promote tourism in the Barranca de Cobre (copper canyon) where there is unbelievable natural diversity and is a historical site for the indians in question.
And why should the Indian not complain? To have a dog dressed as an Indian IS an insult and fine time to stand up and vocalize their grievance.

The Taco Bell was a Chicano issue...two unrelated events.
One more thing. There are many chicanos that are anti-mexican and don't relate to much of what occurs south of the political demarcation line. Most chicanos, however, love the music, cerveza, tacos and much more. JUst don't call Chicanos "mexicans" in that tone of voice. And you know what kind of voice tone is meant.
