Lewisville Banks: No Hoods, Hats or Sunglasses
No hats, no hoods, no sunglasses in Lewisville banks. The city is encouraging banks to post signs asking customers to remove those items before entering in an effort to stop robberies when a suspect passes a note demanding money.
“‘Note job’ robbers try to be inconspicuous, which is why they wear a hat or hood,” said Lewisville police Capt. Kevin Deaver. “Now if they don’t comply, they become conspicuous and, hopefully, uncomfortable so they won’t try to rob the bank.”
Capt. Deaver said that most of the banks in the Lewisville area have implemented the program that was inspired by a similar one in Highland Village.
“[The signs] give us something to stand on, to back us up,” said Becky Bowlen, an employee at Bank of the West, where Lewisville police posted signs earlier this week. Ms. Bowlen said that patrons don’t seem to mind the new policy.
A Bank of America branch in Lewisville said it has not implemented the program because it was still waiting for approval from its corporate office.
