Why egg prices are cracking budgets

Big deal. So eggs are 75 cents more this year. This whiney parents can do things like stop buying their kids $200 athletic shoes, no cell phones, X-boxes and such. And this is not just upper class families either. Stop leasing big expensive luxury cars and SUV's and simply buy a used vehicle or a less expensive model that you will own. Come on people, we need to get back to the habits of the "Greatest Generation" who went through the Great Depression and know how to save and to spend.

It's George Bush's fault because he didn't sign the Kyoto treaty to stop global warming!

Mr Manbearpig, even realizing that you're trying to be ironic, a number of brain-deads aren't going to understand that and will chime in with an affirmation or two without understanding anything about anything.
Kyoto would not have "stopped global warming", for that was not it's purpose. Its purpose was to make first world industial nations voluntarily cut back on their economy so as to let the [largely] backward, profit-hostile nations with struggling economies catch up, and use "carbon footprint" as the excuse. It would have -- and admitted it would have -- transferred carbon generation from first-world to third. |

....i just steal them so i dont care how much they are....

Actually, it's turning out that the whole global warming thing is a scheme by Al Gore to make millions (he is) selling "carbon credits". Very similar to the "Great Illinois Corn Flake" that sold on EBAY for $1000+ this week. There are suckers born every minute. Gore never made any money "inventing the internet", so he's making sure this scam pays. I'll sell carbon credits for 1/2 of Gore's price. |

Give up EGGS. There is nothing in an egg, that is any good for you, that you can't find in some other safer food. Eggs are a psychological comfort food, that people are programmed to have as a breakfast food. They are filled with more cholesterol per gram, than any other food item. Eat eggs regularly, have a stroke. Its that simple. Not to mention getting diseases transferred in eggs that are not completely cooked to destroy potential diseases. Salmonella is not just a chicken thing, it's also an egg thing too. Eat low sugar cereal with low fat milk and little added sugar. Your heart will thank you for many many many more years that you will get from it. That may not mean much NOW, but it will make more sense AFTER your first stroke, if you survive it.

Oscar you couldn't be more wrong. A study was done where a group was given 6 eggs a day for 7 weeks, against none for another. There was no difference in the cholesterol count. Animals have been eating eggs since the dawn of time, so if nature intends it, something must be right. |

Hey stoop, I did the same thing but use the coupon with my regular grocier shopping AND I used those coupons from the Sunday paper. I reduced my grocerie bill by $10.00. Enought to make my purchse of beer free...ha ha. |

I remember when the reports came out on cholesterol in eggs in the 70's/80's and it hurt the egg industry so bad they had to create the "Incredible, Edible Egg" campaign.
Terry - eggs do jack up cholesterol if not checked. And your argument that if animals eat it, it must be right is idiotic. Dogs do not need vitamin C but if you follow their example, you'll die of scurvy. |

allow people to keep chickens in their yards. that will drive down the price of eggs.

and eliminate a lot of lonely nights!!!! |

Who started the egg thing for easter anyway? Teach your kids about religion rather than coloring eggs. Everything is about making money and playing games in this country.

The cruelty involved in producing eggs, dairy, and meat is probably the most unethical thing our society does. The only reason it goes on is because people avert their eyes and the factory farm lobby owns the politicians of the farm states. California's effort to ban cruel animal agriculture practices is wonderful, but those of us in states without referenda are out of luck. The best thing we can do is go vegetarian and only buy cafe-free eggs or none at all.

OLIVE OIL, A LITTLE BUTTER, 2 EGGS, SOME DICED GREEN ONION AND DELI HAM, WITH CHEESE. ON TOAST. YUM.

These animal rights nutcases are getting wayyyy out of hand.
Finding the "right" "scientists and experts" is no problem.... They won't be happy until ALL our food is synthesized in stainless steel retorts.... |

Then stop eating. Show us the way. Lead by example. |

Blame farm subsidies for egg and milk price increases, especially election year politics. The only farms that actually benefit from subsidies are the large corporate owned farms, not your family farms. If farm subsidies were not so high, milk and eggs, not to mention meat, might be cheaper and not subject to price controls in order to support the largely mythical "family farm".
|
|
Bad thing about farm subsidies they also go to people who bought rural land that is still considered a farm even though they do not farm there in lies some of the waste is the oversight of the program or lack there of in this case. |
|
And she spent money on gas for the trip besides! |

|
uhm, don't egg prices go up around Easter every year? Even if they are up, ounce for ounce, eggs, especially cage-free, are still a relatively inexpensive source of protein.
