Actually, no, English is NOT the official language of the USA. But in twenty or thirty years when Latinos are the dominant majority, Spanish might just be. I can't wait. Then in twenty or thirty years as they become the majority and white people become a minority, they can insist we all learn and speak Spanish and relegate English to the back of the bus. The coin toss to determine the name of Portland vs. Boston was NOT flipped by a Latino/Mexican/Hispanic. The men's names who tossed that coin in the 1840's were Pettygrove and Lovejoy, both of whom we named streets in our great city after.

As far as learning Spanish goes, you can fight it all you like, but the REALITY is Latinos are going to be the majority soon, and white people will be a minority. And there is nothing you can do to stop it, even if you slow down the influx of illegals. That means your grandchildren and possibly your children will need to learn Spanish if they want to function in this society.

What's really sad is that your grandchildren and their grandchildren will not be raised in your racist mindset, and will most likely eventually wed someone of Latino heritage, which will make them a part of your family. Then your relatives will look back at photos and go, that was my racist so and so on my (mother's/father's) side. They were idiots. And they'll probably be speaking Spanish when they say it.

Latinos will be the majority in a few decades. The world is changing, people in the US should be encouraged to learn Spanish. Americans tell other people to learn English, but most Americans are monolingual. If Americans go to other countries, they don't learn the language, they hang out with people who speak English. It's pure hypocrisy to say that people who immigrate to this country can't do the same. I know it's like donating a kidney to some people, but Americans should learn a second language; and the best one to learn right now is Spanish.

I would disagree, with almost every thing you say. Muslims will be the new majority in the world.

Americans are monolingual, is at the fault of the US dept of education. almost EVERY other nation, including 3rd world countries teach multiple languages, but thats a conspiracy we can save for another thread.

Before they’re taught or forced to speak English -- they should first be legal.

Of all the past immigration into the US none has been as massive or blatantly illegal as the current invasion from our south. If we can’t remove those not legally here, and can’t protect our boarders, how the hell are we going to demand these invaders learn our language?
