More cuts to come. I am so glad I don't have any more classes to take there. What is wrong with this picture? It defies all logic. They are building all this housing and cutting enrollment/classes...???

What is this going to save? The two faculty members teach other classes outside their major courses. Other majors take the range and soils courses. It will look clean on paper, but saves very little.

HSU is now eliminating programs, thats not surprising. HSU has been going downhill for quite awhile now. Their priorities are mixed up. They build a bunch of ugly student housing while they are eliminating classes, teachers, & now whole programs. Classic! Bring in a bunch of inner city students to make $$$$ off them & then in return, dumb them down with more useless required classes.

Eliminating the Rangeland Program is a bad idea.

It is indeed a sad state of affairs when our colleges and universities are forced to consider eliminating educational pathways. Even those that aren't really heavily in demand fill a vital function in society of re-invigorating the knowledge and management of a variety of resources.
It's short-sighted and it's time our elected officials understood that our future is tied directly to the kinds, quality and variety of educational opportunities in the state. There is nothing we do for the future of humanity, much less California, that is more important. |

Yet the multicultural and diversity program hired 2 individuals and is in full force.
Do you feel that wonderful warm fuzzy feeling inside that is growing with this? Isnt it great that real science programs are surrendered while programs that brainwash individuals into believing they are racist for a PC agenda. Ahhhh, you fools get what you deserve. |

BAD BAD MOVE.....

”The rangeland resources and wildland soils program is not duplicated anywhere in the state,” she said....
So, every other institution in the state has figured out that you don't need a major in these subjects to still offer courses that teach the material... it's about time HSU woke up, consolidated programs, and eliminated the excess that is being held onto all in the name of being "unique." |
||||
|
when are they making the final decision to cut the program or not?
is there any information on what the other 18 programs being recommended to be cut or restructured? |
||||
|
I do not believe that the Rangeland Resources/ Wildland Soils program could be considered "excess" and I think the idea that it has been held onto solely because it is unique is a bit uninformed. I'm also not convinced that you can adequately study grassland/rangeland resources or wildland soils by taking a few courses in a natural resources or forestry department at a different institution.
Despite low enrollment (which could be more of an advertising issue than anything else), the students who graduate from the program are in an excellent position to get good paying jobs. In fact, some students already have jobs within their career BEFORE they graduate. What a concept...maintaining a program where the faculty and curriculum considers the future of its students. I think rather than cutting programs, the university could start by making cuts elsewhere. The money that is going to rather useless projects could certainly be used to improve or at least maintain quality education. To those concerned about losing the RRWS program or any of the others on the chopping block: it's ok....at least we have pretty bricks paving our intersections! |

"other useless projects" such as the smoking gazebo. WTF is that all about? It's across the parking lot from the parking building.

W T F is censored? This is silly.
