This article on rabid fox attacks states that it is difficult to be proactive against this problem but that is not the case. These links outline a program that has been successful in lowering rabies infection in foxes and raccoons. These baiting techniques have been in use for many years and have been effective.

Thank you! In response to many of these rabid fox articles, I have been suggesting this proactive method of response. These bait only cost about a dollar or two a piece and would be much cheaper than the amount of money being spent on testing and rabies vaccines for humans who are attacked. At least our local FWS could do SOMETHING!! This is getting ridiculous! I'll freakin volunteer to distribute these! Im sure many others would as well. Something needs to be done, aside from just dealing with these on a case by case basis. Thanks again for at least posting websites for people to go to to learn more. It's nice to have an intelligent response to these problems for a change!

Proactive?
It is such a warm and fuzzy word. It makes me feel better to just say it. Proactive. Ahh.
Now lets fix this problem without the candy coating.
If you see a fox, shoot it. Do not wait for it to act 'strangely." What will it take for people to understand the risk involved with rabid animals?
If a fox gets close to you, club it to death with a shovel, foot, baseball bat, whatever is available.
Oh I know...animals have a right. But humans have a far greater right not to be attacked and seriously injured by a rabid animal.
Although I know in the utopia of some far away place, animals are as worthy as humans and they just get along. It is a beautiful place that can massage your senses and we can all be one.
Please, reality tells us to kill rabid animals to protect ourselves and our children.
We are the priority when it comes to people or rabid animals.
