Night life already disrupts the city

Bitter Bitter old NIMBY's. Read some Richard Florida Books. Without a vibrant, integrated through out the city night life, Baltimore will wither. Night Life of all flavors makes the city more attractive to folks who spend money, pay taxes and don't have kids to over burden the school system.
For crying out loud, this is the smartest thing the city had done in years. The more people spend in bars and slots houses the easier it will be to reduce the property tax rate. |
If you live in these areas, then you must be either hard of hearing, or sleep like a log. Who wants to hear these drunk idiots at 2:00 in the morning? The city needs to enforce the noise ordinances. If it can't be done, then the bars need to close earlier! |
If you want to live in Amish country move to Lancaster, PA. |
People miss the point. One, unless you yourself live next to one of these bars, you are blowing smoke on the issue. Weird pleasure people get in that "if you don't like it, move" thing, and you can bet they live elsewhere in most cases. But it's mindless and self-centered. Second, the music scene is growing here, but until Baltimore gets a real festival on a par with New Orleans or Seattle--something way beyond the present "jazz" festival at Pier Six--the tourists won't come. You have great talent all around but no vision. More clubs--well, sure, but you have to think bigger, a four day festival of jazz and blues, named it after Billie Holiday or Cab Calloway, native greats. Get Gary Bartz, Gary Thomas, Harold Adams,Warren Wolf, all our local greats, and then further national acts. |
No they weren't. I grew up three blocks away and I can tell you that Boston was warehouses and empty land. All but one of the bars on that strip came in after the North Shore project. I know because I worked on it. Get your facts straight. |
I agree, the Baltimore music scene does need a push to get to the next level. Also, if someone's house was next to a library and a convent when they bought it and then these properties were rezoned for a dance club and rock bar they would have a point. However, if they bought in a commercial area to begin with, it is on them to deal with the noise. |

There's a dang Republican in Baltimore? You're kidding! |
All of the people who say just move to get away from the noise are probably the ones who are yelling at 2:00AM when they come out of the bars. Totally clueless and rude!
If you paid a few dollars to fix up your old busted row house and installed new windows, replaced your window treatments from WalMart with something nice and heavy, and installed central AC instead of using a rickety window fan, you probably wouldn't have a problem. |
how ya been ? the guys miss you getting on them |
HELLLOOOO....what about Virgin Mobile Fest and Artscape...they both bring in thousands of people from out of town. Artscape is free and expansive which is so great. Virgin Fest bring young people from all along the East Coast and it continues to grow. I love Jazzfest in NOLA and would encourage more music festivals here but, don't disregard what we already have. |
I live in a completely rehabbed house. I can tell that you have never had the wonderful experience of living a block away from a bar and having people yelling for a couple of blocks once they leave the establishment at 2:00AM. When everything else is quiet at that time, their noises are magnified. Believe me on this one and come and ask everyone on my block. |
Um...has it ever dawned on you folks to call the police when the peace is being disrupted by drunks at 2am?
LOL! It's obvious you don't live in Baltimore. Asking the police to respond to noise issues. Funny. How naive are you? Make sure your parents know you're on the internet. |
Well, I guess that's because they have responded when I have called them. Several times. The system works if you work it.
the person before beat me to it , you obviously don't live in Baltimore , the police are not interested |
you're right, those are assets and so are the City festivals. I'm on it since the jazz side of things in Baltimore has been neglected--and Artscape, once a prime venue with folks like Wynton Marsalis and Max Roach, nowadays has almost no jazz. Another point: maybe a flaw with the new plan (I read it online) is it has no category for, say, acoustic music as opposed to high decibel/big crowd rock or club volume stuff. Big difference between a corner bar with a songwriter night and a corner bar doing rock or club. Hope they figure it out. |
