I'm no fan of our Gov but this has nothing to do with him. Some of you people are obsessed losers and need to get a life.

Secondly, a majority of ground rent owners are a bunch of scavengers. They are leaches that find archaic laws to exploit in an attempt to get rich quick and or maintain wealth..
Trust me, the world will not end because they are not receiving bs fees that account for more than the value of a home of some working class family.

Finally some of the comments here are absolutely sick. The disregard for working class people is appalling. You don’t like MD take your butt to WV or some other backwards a** state were you can take advantage of people. The educated people here out number you and we will move this state fwd!

People, there is a database of groundrent owners. Mdlandrec.net allows you to look at every deed recorded in MD since the 1600s from the privacy of your own home. It's free, but you do need to get a password. Type in your address and sort through the results. If you don't like having a groundrent, redeem it according to the 6% formula. Yes, like everything else pertaining to real estate, it's a pain in the neck. But either do it, or stop complaining about what is essentially a 6% loan against your property.
If only it were that simple... This is one of the worst state websites I've seen. Been there, tried that. Still needed a local title company to figure it out.

The only helpful information that it does give is to tell you that the subject of ground rent is complicated and confusing, and you'll probably need a real estate attorney or title company to assist you.

I'm sick and tired of reading how investors took a home for $24. WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE REPORT THE TRUTH. The owner didn't pay taxes or water bills on that house for six years and the Sun reporters til this day say the house was being taken for $24. Get Real. Who would waste their time for $24? I hear those reporters actually got an award. The Sun is equivalent to a tabloid. Someone should hold them accountable.

Okay, if you had such a problem with the site and had to pay an attorney to sort it out, why do you think the groundrent owner would have it any easier? Don't you think the groundrent owner is entitled to recoup the cost of paying an attorney to track down the homeowner, draft the ejectment, and post notice? I'm not advocating allowing exorbitant fees, but if you have to pay an attorney, so does the groundrent holder.

Dear Please Tell The Truth, I am one of the victims of the ground rent owners. No, it wasn't $24, but it was $96 - NO LIE. My house is worth about $150-$175K and the ground rent owners had the sherrif post a court order of ejectment on my door. By nature, I am skeptical of reporters/media. I was reading the ground rent series when it was running. I was just like you. I said "Yeah, right, there has to be more to the story. Those people must owe much more than that. These reporters are just trying to sell a sob story". I thought this until that court paper was posted on my door. If you read the stories, I was one of the people caught up in the law suit frenzy on the last day that the ground rent owners were allowed to file such suits. Anyway, I say this not in defense of the Sun, but as a person that likes to know the TRUTH!

Because THIS is how easy it is to find out the owner of a house....

You can also lose your home is you miss just a thousand dollars of your mortgage payment. Most cases this is just people being stupid, all you need to do is read your deed to know if there is a ground rent or not. Abusive ground rent owners shouldnt be rewarded but people should pay their bills and face the consequences if they dont. BTW, the city itself takes houses for unpaid taxes and water bills, no matter how small the bill is. Where is the outrage for the tax sales? Bottom line is stop the abuses and stop the excuses.
