What a waste of our tax dollars, and a waste of the officers time. Try clamping down on the gangs for a change.

If they don't think that there was foul play why is this man's death in the crime report? Last time I checked we didn't have an illegal dying ordinance. The Sentinel should be ashamed of themselves.

I bet SCPD would have netted more DUI arrests if they hadn't mentioned where they were going to be. Come on SCPD, pull your head out of your rear end!!!

dummy, by law the SCPD is required to inform the public of checkpoints. get your head out of your rear end.... on the other hand, the placement of the check point was poor. try ocean street and the 1000's that are driving back from the boardwalk. i bet you net dozens before the death drive on 17.

because all deaths but those of natural causes are determined a homocide. I know that you probably feel that this guy should be thrown in a pit and burned, however he could be sombody's family member as well as it might be Trollbuster and his buddies are killing people in their sleep. Unfortunately, Santa Cruz has a reputation for that kind of treatment of the homeless

How long do you think it will take Becky to try to exploit this man's death for her personal empowerment agenda?

If Santa Cruz has such mean streets for the homeless, why are so many here?

What? Can you read? I'm complaining that they're disrespecting the man by putting his death in the crime report.

Save your canned rant for something that justifies it.

..........hey mommy....Law enforcement is required by law to publicize the location of DUI checkpoint...why is it that some people are always so quick to criticize the police?

They won't do it. Arresting a tourist for DUI might risk losing a few carloads of future tourists, plus that tourist will likely transfer their public service plea to their own county, and we'd lose those fees and man-hours too.

Shop local, sting local, keep fines & fees local.

Yes , you're right. They have to publicize it. This is one aspect of police actions that I support. The percentage possibility of dying on the road in an accident are incredibly high compared with almost anything else you do. And that stat is without DUI drivers in the mix. Even a dent in that percentage can save a life...I'm all for it!

I do not mind entrapment. I do not like drunks on the road as they kill innocent people. Wish the police would nail a few more of them.

Is Sandra Ochoa Garcia, the maintanence worker arrested for vandalizing Aptos H.S. while under the influence of drugs, a lawful resident and lawfully allowed to be employed in the U.S.? The reason for my inquiry and my suspicions is because we have a disproportionatly high number of illegal (undocumented) imigrants in this county. I and other lawful residents want to know if folks arrested for crimes are lawfully entitled to be in our contry. They cost the taxpayers a lot of money! I have learned that under most circumstances, but not all, maintenance companies generally are required to submit a bid for a maintenance contract with State, county and city entities. The lowest bid usually prevails sometimes mandated by government code. I have discovered that a lot of times, the company owner or representative is almost always a lawfull resident. If they have provided the lowest bid, they can easily do so if they employ the hardest working most productive employees with the lowest labor cost (low wage). This is usually acomplished by hiring illegal (undocumented imigrants) as the owner pays no federal, state, social security, or workers compensation money. The hiring entity (state, county, city) may not be aware the contractor employs illegal imigrants to perform the work.

Another one gone
While Becky and Robert lounge around
At home in a warm bed.
This one is on her head
Just like the man under the bridge.
She does nothing
To end their misery
Just continue it.
It's her fault.
My take
