In reality BECAUSE he is a correctional officer, he should be held accountable IF the evidence shows he's guilty. He should be put with the people he treated badly behind bars. Now that would be justice. I just hope there is a rightous trial for this case.

AMEN!!! If you uphold the law you're held to that same standard-PERIOD! It should be that way anyhow. This really has nothing to do with whether or not he's a CO. ALL CO's are is an ADULT BABYSITTER. They have no control over criminals punishment they are simply employed to watch over them thru their sentencing. And if this were you or I and anywhere else we'd be drug through the mud. This has to do with the stupidity and blaitent disrguard for the law by law enforcment officials in Appleton and Swift Co. These folks are dumb beyond imagination. This was all stuffed under the rug due to the Good ol Boy mantality that these folks have. I'm just wondering if this man was a buddy of Mr. Douggie Moe or Mr. Thompson of Appleton. Was he running drugs or guns or who knows what else thru the city and county? Not like this has ever been allowed by people and appreciated by an immature "police chief"!?! Sweep sweep sweep it under the rug...eventaully someone will be there to look and see all the BS you all have been hiding! And oh guess what it's gonna be me who blows the doors off of all you "sneaky" cheating people. And another thing you all in Appleton won't live forever and then whos going to cover things up? I thought you all were God fearing Christian folk down there on the plains? Boy o boy is God and Jesus going to pissed at you all for not living right! Burn babies burn!

Ah get a grip all of you. Go be a CO for about two years at least and see what that job does to you. And somebody has to do it. The CO starts the job as a regular everyday guy, then the job shows you what bad people do when caged. It makes changes in the CO. So close the joints down and just have public stone throwing by all the public, whippings by all the public, bring back burning at the stake. You see the law enforcement work the streets and see lot of bad things too but most of what they see is good people doing good things. COs see bad people only locked up. Does that put them in a higher spot on the ladder ? of course not.
### one post claimed the CO treats the people badly, they are bad people. What does that reader want a CO to do take em out for lunch ?

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Correctional officers should be mandated to get a psychological test once a year to see if they are still fit to deal with these people. If it changes them that much then maybe they become no better than the people they complain about being paid to guard. And no, not all the people locked up are violent murderers or rapists. But they are all treated the same by many of the lower level correctional officers. And some of them are real doorknobs anyway. They couldn't even work a normal job because no one would put up with their arrogant egos. Thankfully there are some career correctional people who take this calling seriously and treat the incarcerated like people, some of whom have made a one time mistake and were made an example of by the justice system. There are many people today in jail who have never hurt anyone and are just doing the punishment some wacko prosecutor bargained them into.

<quoted text>" If you uphold the law you're held to that same standard-PERIOD!" True but, this correctional officer seems to have thought he was the law or, he was above the law. For thinking he was the law, He may need to be held to a higher standard than the rest of us. For thinking he was above the law, a standard double that of what we, the "ordinary" citizens, would be held to.
Absolutely!!! The standards are too easily bent as it is. How can we (ALL OF US) pay these people who are CO's/Jailers/Cops what have you and they have free roam to do whatever they please without accountability? it's garbage and unfortunatly it's a way for society do do crazy stuff without punishment..QUICK LOOK AWAY-I don't have my have stuck in the cookie jar even tho it is. I agree there has to be a much higher standard for these badge toteing bandets! And they have to be held to it!!!PERIOD!

yup! very well put! most co's and cops are involved in the same crimes that they're babysitting "criminals" for. and lots of the time they aren't named (even thru informants) because the wear a $20 badge. the truth is that a co/cop/jailer CANNOT have prejudices' because that automatically means they're going to be bias.

ahhh..thats laughable! thats like the saying "if you can't beat um-join um!" if you can't be responsible for your own actions you shouldn't have that co job! i've worked in the MN and WI prison system and have found that many of my fellow coworkers and administration are just as f'd in the head as the criminals we babysat. this is a cop-out so people don't have to act "right" and blame others for their influences. oooh poor me i worked in a prison with rapist so i'm not going to be in control over myself and go out and rape people, steal from people, take their kids, deal drugs...are you for real!?! and yes public punishment and embarrasment is good for whack jobs but unfortunatly they have rights too. and we as co's and the people who are to "watch over them thru their stay" should be respectable to everyone including onesself. smartass don't be a co cuz it looks like you enjoy the blame everyone else game

Well that was definately some interesting reading. Some people have anger issues, which may or may not be understandable.

It is a situation that is finally being dealt with. A jury of his peers will decide his fate. A tragic incident to a very nice woman, she too had her faults, but did not deserve to die for them. Let the judicial system do what it is designed to do.

The fact that they BOTH worked at the prison, really has no relevence to the case. Those involved will give their testimony, dispositions, etc. as to what happened, but the fact is only one knows exactly what horrible events took place that morning.

The off topic issues are just people demonstrating the ability to be completely childish when someone else doesn't agree with their beliefs.

As my family and I know very well, Appleton MN is the most corrupt place to live! This small town city has A LOT of "cover the bumm issues". And if the crimanals can't cover it up for themselves the city of Appleton will shove it under the rug or simply "try" to get rid of it themselves. My deepest sympathy to this family. I wish I this upon no one! However, this tragidy is one of many!
I hope this family goes after the local, county and state athortities for NOT(yet again) doing their jobs that we all pay for! Shame on them! I firmly believe that residents of Appleton know that there is a pattern of the "Good ol boy" system and until Dougie Moe and his brigade of B.Sers are called on the carpet this horrible act will be repeated and no one will be accountable.
I also would like to say that the best thing for everyone in and around Appleton...come and join the real world and GET OUT OF THERE. Unless you don't like accountability and in that case stay there in LaLa Land it's safer for everyone else who is real and right in the head. Also, don't drink the water its bad for you reguardless of what the city tells you!
Up yours Appleton! Chritina C a past resident who knows all you city officals are corrupt and jaded. Have a nice life because since my family left we've had no problems. Dougie Moe you weren't even through puberty yet when you were given a badge and how can the citizens of Appleton elect such a child?!? All I have left to say is...If you choose to live there you choose to get screwed by everyone!
I agree the officals here in Appleton have not always done their job, but there have been a few officers that will not give up until their job is done. It is horrible to accuse EVERYONE in the justice system for Doug Moe's lack of responsibility. Some people may not have an escape out of this town. The only way I got out was I went to college. Appleton has great opportunities for people who know where to look. With the prison closing now, some of the job opportunities have left but that still doesn't mean that this town is hopeless...just some of the officials.
