Hillsborough school lunch price up 50 cents

Maybe they should charge 50 cents to all the little low income kids instead of raising the prices AGAIN for us parents who pay full price.

Are you serious? How are low-income families expected to pay 50 whole cents for school lunch when the cost of rims has just gone up 10%, 15% for spinners!! SPINNERS!! Not to mention the astronomical cost of cell phone bills, and the 3 phones they need every year when 2 break...

I think that is too much. How come a lot of low income and the illegal people don't pay anything? If you want to raise the praise give them a good meal, not frozen meals. Prepared the meals the same day, not pizza, chicken salad, hot dogs etc. Or at least put a microwave in the cafeteria so (we) the responsible parents can make hot meals for our kids and they can have hot food at lunch time.

In a 5-to-2 vote Tuesday afternoon, the school board agreed to raise meal prices by 50 cents starting in August and an additional 10 cents each year through 2012.
The new lunch prices will be $2.25 for elementary schools and $2.75 for middle and high school students.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS. DO YOU KNOW WHAT WE NEED AS PARENTS? BETTER TEACHERS INSTEAD OF SEX PREDATORS. WE NEED TEACHERS THAT CAN HELP OUR KIDS NOT PEOPLE LIKE THAT. AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING GIVE A LOT OF CHANCES TO SEE IF THEY CHANGE, GIVE ME A BREAK.

Your child can bring a lunch from home. That's why it's called free choice. Bring it don't buy it.
P.S. whats lunch prices have to with sexual predators as teachers?

Are you kidding? The kids are on reduced or free lunch for a reason. Take your lunch thats what we did as kids.

What is wrong with you people? Not everyone who receives free or reduced lunch is on it because their parents are irresponsible or illegal. In fact, I would venture to say that few are on free or reduced lunch for those reasons. I received free lunch as a kid, they don't just give it to anyone, there's an application and approval process to make sure people don't take advantage. We are in hard times right now, I think more and more people are going to find themselves applying for free or reduced lunch, so don't be so quick to judge. You never know when YOU might lose your job and not be able to get another one quick enough to prevent having to apply for free or reduced lunch. WOuld you wnat people judging you, calling you irresponsible or an illegal? With the economy the way it is and outsourcing happening all over the place, you just never know what YOUR future holds anymore.

If you don't like the price of the school lunch than make your kid a lunch to take to school. I think most people will find that paying $2.75 for lunch is chaeper than making a home lunch.

I agree with you 100%, people think that because a family is receveing help by the state that they are spending money on drugs, or on things they dont need, but not everyone does, there are a lot of families who really do have a hard time making ends met. I dont mind helping families with my tax money as long as the family whos needs the help is working and trying to help them self.

I agree with the last 2 comments. I work for school lunch and I see alot of kids that are hungry. I wish more people would apply for the lunch program. It is not a shame like some folks think. I have more problems getting money from the kids who pay full price. The economy is just getting worse and worse. My children were on it and my husband and I both worked. We did not squander our money either.
