Well, don't we need more facts? These guys often work 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet. If this medic was dozing between calls, is there any harm done?

Whats next, are Firefighters going to be suspended for sleeping at work? Don't they get called at all hours of the night to respond to emergencies?

Hey Mike, what are you posting for Chrid Jones? Firefighters are volunteers, this guy was getting paid, big difference! So when your family member is dying, and this guy does not respond cause he is sleeping, allowing your family member to expire, what then, say it was OK? That is brilliant! So we pay people to sleep? Must also work at Sikorsky! Moe wrote: Well, don't we need more facts? These guys often work 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet. If this medic was dozing between calls, is there any harm done?

A cover up? Jason do a cover up? No say it isnt so. Its time for VEMS to disband and let the services do whats best for the people they serve. THAT'S not being done now, and it should be. At the least we need a new VEMS board and people that will do the RIGHT thing! Let tom from derby run it, he was the only one who voted what needed to be voted during the meeting!!

Perillo refused to identify the paramedic or detail what he did, but did say his actions warranted discipline and he was suspended without pay. It was after that the employee decided to resign, Perillo said. If nobody's gonna name names, then this is no more than an internal company matter. Why the *uck did this make the papers?

Umm.... you cant really argue with the results of VEMS. They provide a service well within normal limits for what the valley needs. Instead of crying about how they dislike the management and dont want VEMS anymore, maybe they should a) try to fix the problem b)grow up and c)not worry about another service when most likely your own cant cover their calls.

What a bunch of crap. reads like the enquirer . a medic screwed up and paid the ultimate price. he has been punished. that should end it . but not in the valley. jon from shelton if there r those of u who feel the vems disbans or reorganize, and with that i have a tendency to agree fine. but let this situation be. first time i've agreed with perillo but good for him for not releasing names. what purpose would it have served . its done and the medica has paid the price.

Tom wrote: Tell the whole story. He was in bed with a female in a hotel while on duty and missed 2 calls Maybe you all need to get the story straight! Maybe you should know that the poor guy didnt get released from his shift because his relief NEVER showed up, but no, that paramedic didnt recieve any repercussions. instead this paramedic who resigned's who's only guilt is going to a hotel to rest, and perhaps that building was a dead zone and his radio never went off! as far as the female, why does it have to sound like they were "together", perhaps they were Just Friends! but god forbid, we all know every woman in EMS who's talking to a man is apparently sleeping with him! People in this god forsaken valley need to stop running their mouths. it was a personal matter that many people didnt need to get involved in. The medic paid the ultimate price. and it wasnt even a fair one. so what he fell asleep...last i checked that was allowed of the VEMS medics! yes he missed calls. and as stated some of these guys work 2-3 jobs....and this particular medic may have just come from one 10hr job to be forced into another 24hrs. People need to get ALL the facts before running their mouths and making this fiasco more then it should have been. The fact of the matter is, This medic was a damn good medic and a great individual. he lost alot more then what this story tells. You have a personal vendetta with VEMS, then head hunt Jason. Leave the individuals who work for him out of it. Especially when you dont know them for who they are, and dont have the jobs they do!

Yep..probably the first person to post his real name on this blog, but I don't care who knows what I think. I've been in the valley ems for many years, on both sides of the radio.I know what its like to be so exhausted you sleep through a call.Although, it does sometimes happens, missed calls are inexcusable. I know all the rumors and innuendo that goes around the valley. We apparently thrive off the soap opera which makes up the valley emergency services. I don't care about that crap. My concern is this: He missed calls. Whether he was sleeping (no, can't picture paying money for a hotel room to sleep on duty..nice try EMT-P), or busting off a piece os *ss...the fact is, he missed calls, putting lives potentially at risk. He's been punished, nuff said. Yes, VEMS has been poorly managed, and now apparently there is a push for VEMS expand into transport service. I personally don't want to be treated by an ambulance service who director(Perillo) reminds me of a used cars salesman. The five valley services and VEMS need to get this issue resolved. Get back to the task at hand of providing quality emergency care for the valley residents. And for "sleeping" on the job? Hey, if you are hired to do a job, and the job says "you can't sleep on duty", then I don't care what the ambulance corp next door let there crews do, you boss says stay awake, you stay awake. And even if his relief failed to show after a 24 hour shift, then VEMS needs to have an order-in policy, or the boss needs to fill the shift. Although, I hear that Perillo isn't a paramedic. Not the kind of person I would want running a medic level service. Would you? Yep, this comments gonna come back to haunt me!

The Shelton medics sleep in the Shelton EMS base all the time. This guy was a jacka** too, and rude to the volunteers. This isn't a tragedy, its the result of making poor decisions. I have no sympathy.

If you were a Shelton Medic then maybe you could of relieved him after he worked 32 hrs straight then he was guilt tripped into working another 8hrs. Get the facts dreamer just because you carry the VEMS' equipment does not make you a Shelton Medic... Its obvious you dont know whats up because he treated all of the volly's with respect even though half of them do this for the lights and sirens only and know nothing about pt care...Get a grip player!!!
