I just got off the Peta hotline to tell in detail what I heard from the news report last Night, makes me just sick!!!!I pray the pressure gets on the idiot that took the shot, that animal was so beautiful!!! They find ways to clear crowds for anything else, move the damn crowd back while they wait for the tranq guns. The carry taser guns, what the heck, the do have trunks. I'm just furious!!!

Once again the DNR disappoints by Killing rather then Relocating black bears. Let's rename the DNR to Department of No Results... Come on, find a better solution.

Let's commend the DNR and the North Saint Paul Police Department for ensuring the safety of the public which is what they are paid to do. I do think it is tragic that this bear wandered into an urban area I think these government agencies did what they are here to do, protect and serve.

Billy Boy what is the NAACP? Let put the bear aside for a minute, if the crowd was soooo close why was that DNR idiot running around with a gun,the crowd should of been cleared for the use of that. I wonder if a complaint can be somehow issued in regard to that, maybe then some people will get it!!!!

There have been far too many stories about wildlife being shot vs. tranquilized in recent years in the twin cities. More than once I've heard the story that a tranquilizer gun could not be brought to the scene in time. What, does the DNR have only 1 tranquilizer gun in the state?!?! Each Conservation Officer should be provided with one of these guns to keep in their vehicle all the time. If the argument is that it's too expensive, then ask the feds for a stimulus package for it. I'm sure the prez could find some dollars for that. This animal could have been relocated and been food for an outdoorsman's family and a hunters comforter in a few years. What a waste.

In the article at http://www.twincities.com/ci_13422305 , it states "An officer from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources shot bean bags to get the bear out of the tree. When it tried to run away, officers shot it." Why did they shag the bear out of the tree before their tranquilizer gun was on the scene? Nice plan DNR boys.

T-bone and Fecus, says alot in the name you give to your own self. The bear was NOT going after anyone, he was RUNNING AWAY -did you see what happened on the news?!!!! What's fustrating is uninformed people giving there comments just to stir up emotions, thats why in my book your two cents worth is not even worth the time of day to even respond to.Like Poof I don't hear you!!!! Speak about what REALLY DID happen!!!

Hey Mama Bear, I'm with you. When the bear was scared out of the tree and trying to GET AWAY from people it was shot. No one was in great danger from this little bear and it looks as though our public officials were ill-equipped both mentally and physically to handle the situation. I hope that both the DNR and the police learn from this so that we have better outcomes in the future.

You feel gooders are so pathetic. Do you think they wanted to kill the bear? Do you have any idea the power of a black bear? Obviously not. Many times an animal out of his environment can become extremely dangerous.l They have the instinct to survive and will kill if they have to. If a little kid went up to that bear thinking it was cute, the results could be fatal then you all would be in line to have the arse of the DNR officers. do you think the DNR is Batman, and the carry tranquilizers on their utility belt? Be realistic. I assume the officer that shot had to believe it necessary. I for one will not question their decision. I chose to back them up for doing their job to the best of their ability. Being cute does not dismiss being dangerous.

B.S. They could have let it run off. To say they had to shoot it is B.S. Some dam cop probably wanted to stuff it. That bear was scarred! Single black bears pose little risk to humans!

It's not the tranquilzer guns that are the problem to obtain, it the traquilizer. They can't drive around with the stuff, it's a powerful narcotic and it needs to be refrigerated. Not to mention the fact that you have to get it from a veternarian. It's not that easy. You've been watching too much television.
