What do you think RRCO needs to grow. More Industry, Wet/Dry Election, Prison.

1 For starters, let's begin with the city of Clarksville. Clarksville needs something to bring in some more revenue. Personally, I rarely drink, but think of all the revenue it would generate. Some say it would create a problem if Clarksville went wet but think about it a minute. People are driving to Annona to get their liquor or to Reno. It's the same people drinking and the majority ---do so responsibly. It makes no sense not to allow the stores in Clarksville to sell alcohol. Why give the other towns the $? Second, Big industry will never come to Clarksville. Clarksville cannot provide the water volume these facilities need to function. it's a shame, Red River County wasn't always this way. Third, Some positive PR wouldn't hurt. |

Clarksville being wet has no worry, those that don't want it goes to Annona, Reno, or Oklahoma to buy it so they won't be seen buying. If you don't drink don't buy and Clarksville surely could use the revenue. As a whole the county could. That's like the prison people threw a fit, but when they escape they ARE NOT staying close to RRCty they are out of there. So people get off the tuff and get busy and get revenue in there.
Get some towers up and catch the water you've had enough that would help any industry. lol |

what do we need...people of vision. people of change, people willing to place themselves and thier egos and wants and needs aside for the betterment of this beautiful county.
people who have the sense to look beyond, childish bickering and focus on two things: progress and unity it will take alot to make it happen. |

What would it take to make this county grow? I say a major change in some demographic factors.

why would you want growth if you like large the metro plex is not far

It isn't just water keeping industry away. Roads have a lot to do with it, too. Or lack thereof. That, and would you really want to bring anything to a county that might get (mostly) buried under a lake if some people have their way?

Back in the early 70's I worked at Baker and Taylor in Clarksville. At that time it was a thriving community. Where were people getting their water then? I remember the water tasted God awful. It even ruined the soft drinks at the Dairy Queen. Clarksville is a pretty little town, and if it wasn't gor the two Nursing Homes, and the Hospital? It really would dry up, and blow away. Has the lack of water really caused the businesses to leave? Just curious since it's been sometime since I've known about things in Clarksville. I hear that there are many angry people over a trial that took place there not too long ago. I also saw many Val Varley signs in people's yards requesting him to be fired.
Of course I have no idea what has really happen to this once nice, quite, prosporus little sleepy town. It is a shame that it stopped growing. |

1 I do know Clarksville has some good, and descent people living there, and It is in one of the most beautiful wooded areas of East Texas. Why would you accuse me of slamming Clarksville? I certainly did not mean to give that impression. |

One thing we DO NOT need is a $14,000,000 plus debt on a new school in Clarksville.

Back in 1990 when Clarksville lost the lake and the prison within an 8 month period.......that put the nails in the coffin. Yes, we need a new elementary school, but it's a day late and a dollar short. Time to move on to plan B.

Would you like to know the cost of a Zofran? It's an antiemetic.$80 a pill. It costs about $5.00 to make. How is that for making a huge profit for the pharmeceutical companies, and you wonder why they want Marijuana kept illegal?

I dont have a vote in the deal, however, my two cents... if people on the outside can see a commitment to education thru a building program it puts the community in a different light. People see a community willing to spend their money where needed... prospective residents/Businesses need to see tangible results that money is being put into certain areas within a community, you also have to have few other things in place... I have seen rural schools build new physical plants and their enrollment grows slowly and steadily...not saying that would be the case here... I travel thru Cville quite a bit and from an outsider point of view money needs to spent on infrastructure projects...square is pretty neat, but go a block east/west/south and looks change in a hurry...The highway now by passes downtown which also hurts every small community...you have to have something to attract those people into town...maybe new schools can do that...jmo...on a side note, my tax bill is high where I live due to school taxes but the districts have top notch facilities which attract new students... |
