I agree Fed Employee. I have been in correctons for 15 years and inmates/offenders have all 24/7 tothink of a way to escape. when u put all your thoughts and energy on one thing you become very knowledgable about it. There are some very smart offenders. And i as well think the sherrif is doing a good job. The more deputies the safer the community. That guy that escaped was no danger to the community he was out of town before u could blink your eye. Its easy to get a ride out of town when your plan is executed and no one is expecting you to run. he didnt want to die he wanted out of here.

This escape is one of several examples of the Sheriff's lack of ability as a leader. Don't get me wrong, he has a huge heart and would give anyone the shirt off his back. I believe that he cares for the parish. The problem is that he lacks the leadership qualities that should go with a position that draws such a large salary.

This inmate had a pending felony trial which means he shouldn't have been allowed out on the exercise yard without supervision. The Sheriff probably had no clue that was going on but it does ultimately fall on his shoulders because its his choice who runs the jail and what rules are in place. In the Sheriff's tenure he has failed to find someone to run a decent jail operation. Instead he hires a consultant who makes as much as the warden instead of hiring one person for one salary to run that place.

I don't want to run on at this one forever but it blows my mind how no one on this site has pointed out his complete inability to manage a decent budget. Every year he brags about his ability to keep from blowing the fund balance inherited from Bill Daniel. At least Bill Daniel had sense enough to save for a rainy day, a day we will see sooner than later. The Sheriff drastically increased the payroll but did so without increasing services. The positions he created were mostly for positions that served his political interests. The number of uniformed deputies that actually respond to calls hasn't changed. Every school has a deputy that is paid for out of the SO budget, not a grant that was initially promised. Those deputies don't write reports or make arrests. Nothing against them, just no need for the positions. I would venture to guess that the SRO division hasn't made 5 arrests in their 11 year existence. What about the helicopter? Oh yes, all the helicopters were free to get but they are not free to operate. Do you think its expensive to get gas for your car? What about insurance? Try owning a helicopter. The fancy boats for the MS River....same thing. The MS River responses amount to towing boats with engine trouble.

This is a drop in the bucket to the things that illustrate the poor leadership in the Sheriff's Office. Good man, horrible leader.

CJP, I totally agree with you! There are way too many unmarked cars provided for personal use (for clerical positions). That is totally crazy. No use providing a vehicle, insurance, gas that we taxpayers are paying for. I understand it is needed for the ones that are on call but these ladies are NOT ON CALL! iT IS A WASTE OF MONEY!

You have just described 95% of every elected official and appointed board in West Feliciana, and Saint Francisville, and probably 95% of every rural parish in Louisiana, or every county in the United States. Good people, with good intent, without a clue as to what it takes and how to do it. It reminds me. One time I was asked about my feelings about "Organized Crime"? Given only two choices Organized or Unorganized Crime, I would definitely go with Organized Crime, at least there are some rules, and limits.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Aries

It won't be long before you start to feel bored today, unless you can distract yourself - you're switching from one activity to another. Ideally, you should keep yourself amused by doing something that's unusual or challenging, otherwise you'll be tempted to stir up trouble just to see what happens next! Even though you know that's a bad idea, you won't be able to resist, unless you've got something better to do with your time.
