WFPSO searching for escaped inmate

Full story: WBRZ

The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office has launched a manhunt in St. Francisville after an inmate escaped from the parish jail Sunday, the sheriff said.

David St. Germain, 46, was discovered missing from the jail about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, said Sheriff J. Austin Daniel.

Authorities are not sure how St. Germain escaped from the facility, Daniel said.

St. Germain was being held at the jail after violating parole from theft charges, Daniel said.

The sheriff said St. Germain is not considered dangerous and is not suspected to be armed, but residents nearby need to remain cautious. People living in a three-mile radius of the jail have been notified of the escape, Daniel said.

The chase team from the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola is assisting in the effort to find St. Germain, Daniel said.

Thought they fired everybody at the jail last time this happened a few months ago? Are they going to fire this bunch to? Was it the guards again or is it something else? Gee, it isn't like the prisoners held n the jail are master criminals, most aren't smart enough to walk and chew gum. Maybe they ought to give them those plastic room keys when they are booked!!

Dear Bubba, I am glad I do not know you, as you seem to be of narror mind, and apparently think imates are dumb, You must remember the are alway thinking and watch everything a guard does and in the case of the current escapee, he first came to this parish as a work release prisoner, and made parole from the state. He came back and robbed his previous employer, here in the parish, and was apparently working as a trustee at the jail. During his time as a turstee he noticed alot in planning his escape.

now thejail is not the modern facility in the world, it is over 60 years old, and has a prisoner size, set by the state fire marshall. so there are apparently many things wrong with it.

Over the years the sheriff, not just Austin and the police jury have faught, over the cost and who would pay for the jail. The jury say they do no havethe funds, but we will not go there. As for the current sheriff, i believe he has the funds, as I am sure he gets a percentage of the funds made by the work release program

I beleive a new jail is needed and should be built asap. The size of the jail has also be a question between the jury and the sheriff, but i believe it should start at lease 125. We need a facility to hold both men and women. At present, when we get a woman prisoner, they are shipped to Rayville, LA and we pay them to hold her up there. I believe our new jail should be 25/100,25 women and 100 jail, with a stipulation, that incarated immate are limited to our parish, and that no inmates space be sold, leased or rented to other facilities for holding thier inmates. That is one way to prevent over crowding of our jail when we may need it, and to prevent early release of criminal due to overcrowding

Sounds as if you are either. Ex Prisoner, Guard, or work for the Sheriff. Inmates are Dumb! or they wouldn't be inmates. My point was replacing the last group of guards didn't seem to fix the problem! Maybe it wasn't the Guards, Ya Think!!

Yes, we do need a new jail and the funds WERE there. When Bill Daniel left office he left a fund for building a new jail that had several million dollars in it. SOOOOOO Where is the money??? Perhaps it goes to pay the salary for ALL the people employed by the current sheriff, along with their cell phone bills, credit cards that they all carry and the list goes on and on.
So, again the question is.... Where's the money?

Except for the fact that the State Constitution mandates that the Police Jury is responsible for providing the jail, not the Sheriff's Office. Point to ponder.

If the money is there, what stops the Sheriff from processing a Intra Agency Transfer of the funds to the Police Jury, based on the agreement that the Jury spends the money to build a jail?

Don't you find it strange that 25 or 30 years ago the powers that be decided how the millages were going to be shared, Town, Sheriff, Parish, School, Hospital? Some now have more money than they need for OPERATIONS, Hospital, Sheriff, seem to have big surpluses. School, Parish and Town seem to be a little short. How many folks do you know that set up a budget 30 yearts ago, based on 30 year ago needs and haven't changed it since? This is not (yet) a poor parish, when you look at TOTAL TAX PAYER dollars. It may be past time for a distribution adjustment, or the ones with plenty will figure away to spend it (Hospital and Sheriff) and the ones that don't have enough will be after us for a tax increases. Go figure!!!

I don"t find it strange at all!!!! I call it being frugal and living or operating within your means! Just like personal finances, if you spend foolishly and do not save... guess what you have? Nothing! If you save here and there and watch your spending and make some small sacrifices, you have more! Common sense!
You say "If the money is there, what stops the Sheriff from processing a Intra Agency Transfer of the funds to the Police Jury, based on the agreement that the Jury spends the money to build a jail?"
Maybe the sheriff should address that!!!! My bet is the money is spent and there is NONE to transfer!!!!!!

Austin has spent, and spent and spent. Look at all of the bells and whistles he proudly displays for us to see. This is the manner in which a weak person attempts to convince his constituents that he's doing a good job. One day you'll see that our sheriff is a pretty good damned flim-flim man.

Ask this:

How many deputies,
How many units,
And here's the best part...
How much money for the Sheriff's "expenses"?

But even he wouldn't be dumb enough to turn whatever funds he has over to this crooked police jury/parish manager.

I agree, but keep in mind many of the seemingly excessive “bells and whistles” were purchased with grant money allocated for specific purchases (boats, helicopter, etc.)
just a thought

My, my Country girl.. I hardly think we have a weak sheriff. We got the helicopter and tanks from Homeland Security grants because we have a Nuclear Plant. Austin is no flim-flim man... He is doing a good job.

Maybe one of you dumbasses would like to try to handle the JOB. We are blessed in the Sheriff we have.
Why don't one of you charms run next time?
You probably wouldn't even know how to apply for a "Grant" which is FREE money!

Hes definately not a film man because when asked on the news how the inmate escaped he said he had a perimeter set up and his officers were checking vechicles but when it started to rain he didnt want to "inconvience" the residents. So instead he simply put our lives in danger.

I hope no one is questioning Austin's love of this parish and his dedication to protecting the residence of the parish.

When I first learned that Austin was running against Mr.Bill Daniel for sheriff. I was not living in my home parish at the time. And since I had known Austin all his life, I questioned his ability for the job. But over the years, since he was first elected, I believe he has done a good job in preforming his duties, and even I question the size of his department for such a small parish, but overall he has used his knowledge of the parish, and the people who live here to do what he thinks is best for the parish and it people. He may not be the best sheriff in the world but I believe and hope that he has the welfare of all the people as his first priorty in preforming his job.
