They didn't even have the courtesy to call me. I thought that it was going to be opening today.

I am hoping that as soon as they open (if ever), that it will be well worth the wait. As for now, I have had nothing but bad experiences with them. They said they were waiting on plumbing, but just last week my friends and I saw them bringing in equipment and there is a big dumpster outside still. Doesn't look like plumbing to me...

these guys are worthless, and you are absolutely right about them not letting you cancel so they can steal the first month from you has anyone else had to pay the alleged waived registration fee of 49 bucks now that they are open? any advice on how you guys are handleing this would be appreciated. mm2falsone@yahoo.com

Hopefully anyone who has posted or read this will tell everyone they know about the terrible service at Powerhouse Gym in Lake Jackson. In order to sell memberships they tell customers what they want to hear. I was misled on the issue of the "first week" cancellation and when I spoke to the manager, Brett, it was THE WORST experience I have ever had in dealing with a business. He was completely rude and unwilling to listen to my complaint. He just argued and name called. So PLEASE pass along to everyone to not do business with this gym!

I can't tell you how furious these Powerhouse scumbags make me. I had/have a similar problem with a new Powerhouse that opened in January of 2009. MY CONTRACT SAYS THE OPENING DATE IS DECEMBER 2008. In January, they were still not open and told me I couldn't cancel until they did open, and that I STILL had to pay the processing fee and first month's membership. bull. I had my bank do a stop-payment and sent a cancellation letter to their parent company along with the copy of the contract (which says December 2008 and is therefore no good). A month later I got a call from them saying they're having trouble charging my account, so I told the woman what happened and she said "OK, no problem.. I'll take you out of the system." I thought I was in the clear.. NOPE. I got a call today from them saying that my Jan and Feb payments are overdue and they are about to turn it over to the collections agency for the full amount of the contract.
Luckily, I made a second copy of my original cancellation letter and mailed it to myself and had it postmarked in case it came down to this. Looks like I'm going to have to take this to court. If my credit rating gets even touched, I'm also filing a lawsuit. Never ever give your money to these dirtbags. |

Yep...they stole my money too. Told me that the contract said they had to open by March 1, even though they had promised November...and they opened up right before that..and never notified that they were opening...probably hoping to steal more months worth. Thankfully they just stole the first month and the registration (which I never recall having been told about upon sign up) and I was able to cancel...but not because they communicated--just because I happened in the mall to check to see if it was open or not. With the way they do business (or thievery, more appropriately) I don't see them lasting very long.

I will be very surprised to see this business stay open. My husband and I own a business and the way this gym handles their customer service is pretty shocking. The first class I wanted to attend...the teacher never showed up. I went to work out on the treadmill and the tv did not work. My husband had an appointment with a trainer....he never showed up. I went to the yoga class....no mats. The staff said they are "coming". I tried the smoothies....sad to say they are not made with real fruit.
Sad enough, I continue to work out because I am locked into a contract.....I will not be reccomending this gym to my friends. |

The problems with the club opening late was unfortunate. Those guys would have opened sooner if they could, it wasn't the owner's fault!
As far as the club goes I have worked out all over the U.S. and this is as nice of a club as you will see anywhere. The equiopment is awsome! I think you guys just don't remember what you talked about when you joined the club. I joined this club in September, I couldn't tell you everything that we talked about that day. If you remember a conversation that you had 4 months ago you you are full of you know what. I do remember them telling me that I had 7 days once the club opened to try it out and if I didn't like it then I could cancel. Nobody ever said that I would get money back. The deal was that I would be released from the rest of the contract. So we had to wait...it was worth it! It is an awsome club I hope that everybody from Family Fitness goes to workout at Powerhouse it's a way better gym. |

I am honestly shocked as a local business owner. I in no way wish for other businesses to fail, but I have a bad feeling about powerhouse. If you like having no customer service, enjoy being no-showed on several occasions and love constantly hearing excuses and no answers to anything....this Is the place for you. If all you need is great equipment, good deal...to me, why drive a BMW if you have to park it in front of the tent you live in? I really hope they can get their crap together! I see a lot of locals at my business and there is an overwhelming feel- unconcerned untrained staff, facility sadly just above functional and no one who seems to be able to answer anyting. Fail to plan, plan to fail.
*nasty advertising is really a bad marketing idea. It gives the gym management a definate tag as unprofessional and immature. |

This gym is awful. I should have known not to sign up for a gym in a mall! If that Jessica from Orange Park, FL helped open the place. I can now understand why it is so awful. For a former employee to call BS on another employee "name-calling", she sure has a filthy little mouth. Furthermore, to degrade others over being upset is just wrong. Unless of course Powerhouse Gym finds stealing, demeaning others, and lying to be acceptable business practices.
"Come to our gym, we'll screw you over good." |

It is a good gym with really nice equipment. It was definitely a shaky start but things seem to be smoothing out. Communication from management could be better but hopefully that will work at too. As far as the trial period, I found they hid nothing but you had to know the right questions to ask. I got a good rate and so far am pleased with the product for the price.

I read the above posts before I went to the gym.
However I went in with an open mind. The gym is a little small but is very clean and all new equipment. It's probably the nicest looking gym in town. The only bad thing I can say is their sales tactics. It felt like I was at an 1980's car lot. I have not seen such lame sales gimics since then. They try to repackage the memberships to try and confuse you with the true cost.(I did not tell them that I am an accountant.) Their $20 per month promotion that they recently advertised does not mention that it is only valid if you pay for 2 years up front. The sales person actually said "I can make you a better deal today b/c my sales manager is not here today." It was so unconviencing that I almost felt sorry for her having to recite such nonsense. The great deal was their offer of a shorter membership at a higher price. I said no thanks but I would sign up for a year membership at the advertised rate. When she asked her manager, his response was no. From my experience, the staff & management did not seem professional at all. My spouse told me later that she had a bad vibe about them after the sales experience & didn't want to give them any money since they seemed to be absent of ethics. I'd risk 1 year membership but I honestly wonder if they will even make it for 2 years. Too bad cause the facility is really nice. |
