It is good to see LBUSD using Camp Oakes since it is owned by the Long Beach Metro YMCA.

I would be True...

my kids are there at camp oakes right now..i'm glad it's only a three day event otherwise we wouldn't have let them go.. also, it's good to send them somewhere else where there's no threat of wildfires!

So was Hi-Hill closed because of fire danger as first reported or because the district was "negotiating" a new permit? An abundance of caution is in order during fire season for sure, but that is historically the month of October. And how has having one way in and one way out changed in the 50 years the district children have been enjoying this camp? Quit sending mixed (alarmist) messages and just say it is financially just impossible in this economy. Most people would understand that.

I went to Camp Hi Hill as did many of my friends (a couple eventually became counselors there) and I was very much looking forward to my daughter going next year ... I am very disappointed that Camp Hi Hill isn't an option and annoyed that ALL OF A SUDDEN - 30 years later .. they are concerned about fire hazards ... I'm sure my dad wouldn't have let me go if he knew that -- what's the REAL story?
